Question about Kitchen Ranges

Most smooth top elements only work on high

Hi All, I purchased a Frigidaire Range (FEFL79FCB) from Lowes in late 2006 (Stainless Steel, smooth top with 5th warming element) that from what I've read has a similar defect that many others have experienced. Within a year of owning, one of the burners would only work on high and now it's to the point where only the combo 9''/6'' burner will work from low to high. If the rest are set less to than high, they'll turn on but won't heat very hot at all - only on high... I know it's difficult to diagnose based on this, but would it be worth trying to replace one of the smaller elements and if that works, replace the rest of them, or does this problem sound more electronic/controller related? Any assistance would be appreciated!

I finally got around to replacing the ERC a few months ago and are experiencing the same problems, if not worse. Most elements only work on high or near high - any medium settings is more like having it set on low... Could I have gotten a bad ERC online or is there something else I should consider fixing? Thanks much! Scott

This is a voltage distribution issue
you would be better served to replace the

Thanks, I've replaced the ERC finally a few months back and having the same symptoms - burners work either as high or low and pretty much nothing in between except on the 6/9" element... Did I possibly get another bad ERC or is there anything else I could look for before scrapping this unit? Thanks again! Scott

Frigidaire range blew up

It sound like something shorcircuited and put WAAAAY more current through your oven than it can handle.
You could test the circuitbreaker's circuit by pluging something else in that circuit (a 2kw appliance would be an appropriate test).

It's hard to say for sure but with a fault like that if it wasn't from the oven itself your circuit board should show a visible sign of overcurrent.

I would suggest trying to get something out of the Frigidaire, talking to the retailer if he can do anything and if no one gives contact a consumer reports journal. They love dirt like this.

Frankly, this fault, if it is oven related is dangerous and all appliances should be 'intrinsically safe.'

Good luck.
