Broken door handle

The door handle broke completely off the installed unit. How can I remove the door and replace the handle or hire someone to do this in my home?

The components of the door must be dissambled to expose the bottom screw for the door handle. First the outermost shroud is removed by slipping a putty knife into the gap between this plastic and the metal center assembly containing the window. To remove the front pieces remove the phillips screws and then using a putty knife carefully unlatch the plastic tabs that hold this assembly to the metal door frame. Now the bottom handle attachment screw can be removed. Reassemble with a new handle in reverse order. Many parts houses have this handle which is item #1801 for the SCA1001FSS 01.

After 5 months inuse, the lower plastic anchor of the door handle of my over the range Maytag microwave is worn and the handle comes lose. Can I glue the metal handle part back on to the anchor, to avoid a more complicated repair?

Thanks for your instructions. Very thorough. And if the parts dealer had given me the right handle (I should have brought the old one) I'd have it done today.

I would caution anyone else to pay particular attention to the tabs on the far right of the open door when prying.  Don't pull the cover out at all when you do these (top & bottom) Mine broke off but still don't think it's a problem. Thanks again.

I have a GE Advantium oven model SCA 1001 FSS with a broken door handle (bottom). My question is is the fix the same as above problem and is the glass area sealed for protection so we have to be real careful working around it?

Re.SCA1001fss 01
I agree with bogus. But I think you should buy the choke cover (item # 1804) prior to attempting this because the plastic clips will snap off.
To remove the outer cover, after you have removed the six small screws, which has to be done to access the lower screw, with a helper, start from the hinge side pushing with your thumbs while your helper maintains outward pressure so the clips do not snap back in place. Work it around on top and bottom at the same time. Carefully lie it on the counter so you don't pop out the glass. Remove the existing screws (you might have to use a pair of pliers to hold the broken stem) Replace in reverse order...Be careful not to over tighten the screws

Bogus...use a Torx driver to remove the door screws...careful of the glass. Replace the handle and reassemble. You may want to take digital pictures along the way. Parts available from ge or other online parts guys.

Fridigaire over the stove microwave. the handle is broken. We can order a new handle but don't know how to install it. Can you help? thanks, Linda C. e mail ...

You must take the door out by removing a screw then lifting the door off the hinge pin then the door must be laid on it's front and, completely
disassembled to replace the door handle.

The lower handle retainer is broke

If only the door handle is broken, it can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.
If the model number is correct, this is a parts illustration of your oven door:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The door handle on this model has two parts (items 3 and 8). Depending on what is broken, you may only need to order one or the other. Both parts, combined, is still only about $20. The part numbers are WB15X10119 and WB15X10120, respectively.

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

If you have any questions, please post back with your and let me know. I hope this helps you

The handle broke on my microwave. How do I remove

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, simply open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Door Handle Broken Off

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Broken door handle, have part but can't put it on.

Thats disgusting mate! The doors are either clip together, plastics or if stainless as per photo, it would require opening the case, removal of door then prising off the fascia trim to get to the handles.

I'd ring them back up, that is not a user servicable part as it will bugger the finish trying to separate the doort.

Best of luck

I have a GE Profile Microwave and the handle is broken....

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
