Fan light is turning itself on

INstalled a hunter fan with a remote control. The light keeps turning itself on - in the middle of the night, daytime, it doesn't matter. Is the problem in the fan/light or in the remote. What is causing the problem and how do I fix it? RSHFOREST

Oh i remember my first ceiling fan and the midnight wake ups. lol. Easy easy fix. You are getting radio interference from some other source. Take the fan back down and in the remote as well as the reciever you can change the codes (refer to your owners manual) Some have switches you can move others have plastic clips you can add or remove. In any case it doesn't matter which code you change it to as any other code should solve your problem. Good luck, hope you sleep better afterwards.

I had the same problem...funny ...NOT! Wife almost killed me!
Pull down the guts and change the frequency switches. Usually little micro switches on the receiver up inside the housing. They call them DIP switches. Change the swithces in the wireless remote to be the same setting. I changed mine and now maybe once in a while a stray radio signal (garage door openers, radio signals, airplanes...all use frequencies near or harmonics of the ones these fan controls use) kicks mine on, but not every night! She stormed out and said..."Are you playing with the lights....I'm trying to sleep!"....It wasn't funny....but it kinda was!

We had an electrician install a Hunter ceiling fan in our daughter's bedroom along with a Hunter remote control. The light will randomly turn on in the middle of the night. It seems to occur only when...

Before I did anything else I would try changing the code on the problem fan. Change the dip switches in the fan and in the remote controller unit to a different code. It is not impossible that a neighbor has the same code in their unit or a device in the area is operating off the same code. Probably the cheapest thing to try next.

One night the fan turned off as we slept and last night, it's lights came on in the middle of the night.

The electronic control unit in the fan might be going/has gone bad. Depending on the amount of money a new one might be, it may be adviseable on getting a new fan.

I think our house is haunted. Just installed

See my post below: (Sorry, we're in the same boat!) Hunter ceiling fan with remote, have 5, 4 are seriously impaired! Lights dim to half strengh after variable time 10 seconds-30 minutes. And lights or fan turns on randomly (come home & fan on full blast), and one in which the lights won't dim (just blinks when try to dim)! Hunter "kinda" admits there is serious problem with remote but doesn't have a solution. Tells people to try changing to different code/channel on the remote due to possible interference (pain in **** to change code on ceiling base!), was totally ineffective. Then replaced receiver in ceiling base (another total pain) in 3 fans with new ones sent Hunter, still totally useless. Hunter's suggestion, don't use the remote, just use the pull chain. If I had wanted a pull chain fan, I'd have bought a pull chain fan. TOTALLY USELESS! Moral of story: If you want a remote ceiling fan (my friend found out that all their remotes are made by the same company in Taiwan), don't buy Hunter!!!!!
- P.S. I found a "Kinda"- fix for the lights dimming to half strenth. After turning on the lights, wait 1 second, then dim lights slightly, they will then stay on the strength that you dim them to. - P.P.S. When I changed the receiver in the one where the lights won't dim, it "solved" that problem...Now it has the same problem as the others, lights or fan turn on randomly!

When I turn the light off with the remote control

im realy not trying to be a smart a*s but bont you only ever use lights at night?? i know i do?
it sounds like its the programer chip within the light that giving you the problem if taking the batterys out the controler dont stop this, its down to the light,
well there is one other thing it may be,,,
a friendly gost playing tricks on you???
or it could be that its getting a surge or spike of power from some were and that tricks the controler in the light to turn itself on???
sorry about that bit of fun as first just could not resist it????

Our fan light comes on all by itself in the night. the fan itself does not always respond to the remote, mostly when turning on. I had to replace 85112-02 a couple of times when the fan was new. Now what?

Your power is going off and back on during the night (that, or a poltergeist is pushing your power switch. :-). The Hunter 85112-xx is programmed to turn the light on when power has been off and is restored (this is so you can turn it off/on with the wall switch as well as with the remote). No way that I know of to get around this. I find it VERY annoying.

Hunter fan/light with remote installed turns on by itself

Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.

But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.

Hunter ceiling fan w/ remote won't work

You need to change the receiver inside the fan. It is located in the top canopy of the fan. you don't have to buy a new remote just the receiver to save money and match the dip switches to the remote.
