Aerus lux 5500

Vacuum starts and then shuts off immediately. Removing the (unobstructed) hose and turning on (without hose) causes vacuum to run. Any blockage of hose hole and it shuts off.

Help please?

See the following site for a solution that bypasses the "bag full" filter:

There is a red button on the head of your power nozzle. It is the reset button. Try hitting it and see if that helps.

Unit turns off when any type of restiction to air intake. For example when unit is turned if hand is held in front of hose connection unit will turn off

This actually cover several models of Aerus and Electrolux canister vacuums. Models covered include: 2100, Epic 6000, Epic 6500, Aerus Lux 5500, Aerus Lux 7000, and Aerus Lux Legacy. Be aware that some of these models may still be under warranty. Any disassembly of those machines will void the warranty. Use of non-genuine bags also voids the warranty. Use only Home Solutions Aerus/Electrolux bags.

First, turn dial on top of vacuum counter-clockwise so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. See if it stays on. If not, detach hose and turn vacuum on. Place palm of hand over intake. If it turns off, it's possible that the tubes connecting to the CVA are clogged and simply need cleaned. This is most often caused by using "made to fit" Electrolux bags. Dust is sucked through the bags and into the motor compartment of the machine. All interior parts get covered in dust and need to be cleaned. If this is the cause, the vacuum is best cleaned and repaired at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. If the vacuum shuts off, or won't turn on before placing hand over the intake, it's probable the control valve assembly is bad and needs replaced.

Another cause is an overheated motor due to clogged screen at back of bag well, full or clogged bag, dirty afterfilter, bad wiring/connections, clogged hose, clogged power head, or bad motor. It depends largely on the type and model of cleaner. Clogged wands are also a possibility, but unlikely.

Check and clean screen at back of bag well.

Replace bag. Make sure it's a genuine Electrolux bag made by Home Solutions.

Check and replace afterfilter if necessary. These should be replaced after every six bags.

Broken and worn wiring connections are often found in the hose ends due to abuse and normal wear and tear. You can check the continuity of the hose using a continuity tester or multi-tester. If a multi-tester, turn dial to one of the Ohm settings. Place one probe into one of the terminals on the end of the hose. This will be referred to as T1. Touch the other probe to each of the terminals/connections on the other end of the hose. These will be T3 and T4. One of them should read zero, the other should read infinity. Repeat this with the other terminal, which will be T2.

Drop a marble in one end of hose and let it roll through. If it doesn't roll through, the hose is clogged and needs to be cleared. Plug hose into the exhaust port of the vacuum, place other end in the in port. Turn vacuum on. This provides a blowing and sucking action which should clear the hose.
Detach hose from power nozzle (PN). Drop a marble into the wand end of PN. If it rolls through, it's clear. If not, there's probably a clog behind the brush where the intake opening is. You may be able to reach this through wand end with needle nose pliers, or either end with a knitting/crochet needle or a bent coat hanger.

If none of these "fixes" provide the answer to the problem, it should be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for diagnosis. Repairs or checks involving disassembly of the vacuum should always be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service technician.

The bag light turns on and the vacuum turns off within seconds of turning the vacuum on even with a brand new bag

First try turning dial on top of the machine so the arrow lines up with the smallest dot.
The most likely problem is clogged, worn, or broken control valve assembly (CVA). It could also be clogged tubes to the CVA. This is usually caused by using "made to fit" bags rather than the genuine bags made by Home Solutions. The vacuum would need to be taken to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for repair/replacement. Generally, if this is the problem, the interior of the vacuum, including the motor, needs cleaned as well.
Some other simple things you can check are:
Dirty afterfilter. This is located on the exhaust hole on the back of the vacuum. To access, press in on tab at back of the exhaust cover, lift cover from the back, and remove filter. If the filter is dark, it is clogged with dust particles and needs replaced. Turn vacuum on and run it for awhile. If it continues to run, this is the problem.
Another potential cause is a clogged hose. Disconnect hose at both ends. Drop a coin down one end and lift that end to allow coin to drop through the other end. If it does, fine. If not, connect hose to the exhaust port, place other end into a large garbage bag, or into the in port of the vacuum, and turn on. This almost always clears the hose.
Check the elbow of the power nozzle where the hose connects. Drop a coin through here to check for clogs. If there is one, it can generally be cleared by pushing it toward the brush with a wooden spoon handle, or similar blunt object.

Electrolux Super J model, bag light stays on and vacuum will not run.

Have you checked the screen filter below the bag? This sometimes gets clogged with fuzz and whatnot, resulting in the vacuum shutting off. To clean it simply remove the bag and use a pick or similar item.
A clogged hose will also result in the same problem. Try running without the hose. If the vacuum runs without the hose a blockage in the hose is a probability. However there could be a clog in the power nozzle above the brush, as well. Check the suction at the end of the hose. If very little there's a good possibility this is the problem. Double check by dropping coin in one end and allowing to drop through. If it doesn't there's a clog. It can usually be cleared by plugging the hose into the exhaust port and turning the machine on. Be sure the other end is inside a large plastic bag.
Visually check wands to ensure they're clear. If not, push clog out with a broom stick.

My lux 7000 has a new bag but when i start to use it with the power unit or without the unit shut's it self off i can reset the lites or the motor if you will by clicking the on off switch 4or 5 times...

Have you replace the afterfilter? It may also cause this if rather dirty. It's located under the tool caddy/air diffuser on the back half of the machine.
Try this: Disconnect hose, turn on vacuum. Does it continue running? If so, place palm of hand over intake. Does it shut off? If so, it's probably a broken or worn out "control valve assembly" (CVA). Or a tube connecting to it could be clogged and simply needs cleaned out. This is very common in vacuums that have had generic or "made to fit" bags used in them. Either way, this is a job for Supertech.
Take your vacuum to a nearby Aerus Electrolux authorized store and have the service tech check it out, provide an estimate for repair, and then repair it. It's a good idea to have the interior cleaned at this time, and doesn't cost a lot more. It will get rid of the dust in and around the motor that could shorten the life of the motor.

This vacuum has a 10 year warranty on the motor, and 5 years on everything else. Look in the yellow pages under vacuums, for the AERUS dealer, that is the new name for the traditional Electrolux company.....
