My HP Laserjet printer did not install properly on Windows 7. Somehow, Win 7 thinks it's an unknown device. As HP has not made available (yet?) drivers for the device, I have to rely on the method where Win 7 automatically installs drivers on recognition, but it won't because the driver is already there. My question is, how can I remove the ''Unknown device'' when Win 7 doesn't appear to have a delete or uninstall function for an unknown device (it does for recognized items! - grrr...)

- OK, I fixed that part myself by going to the Unknown Device's properties and then deleting the driver and the USB port support manually.
Great, it's gone, but I still can't print. I've tried every driver for that printer on HP's site but none of them seem to be capable of working under Win 7 and the "automated" install by Windows fails too, telling me it cannot find a driver and, again, leaving an Unknown Device in my Device Manager. Grrr...
The worst part is that HP's site shows it does have a Windows 7 driver, but following the directions for where to get it results in no Windows 7 driver being found and a note which says, in essence, "if it ain't here, too bad..." Grrr... again!
This is not an old printer but is current in the stores right now on the shelves. There is nothing newer. I don't get it. HP Laserjet P1005, check it out for yourself.
