Re: computer dead

Sounds more like a power supply problem. Easy fix just install a new power supply or try it with a known good supply.

Power supply unit gets power as light on the back shows but pc wont turn on. Have tried differnt PSU and pc turned on but have had unit checked and they said the PSU is working fine. Cant fit standard PSU...

Try this to get it at-least back on with your PSU that fits in the case. open up your computer case, locate your power supply. With the AC cord still plugged in , unplugged the connectors to your motherboard from the PSU and wait about 10secs. Then replugged them in. This should power on your PC.
Also, You wanna check around where the PSU connects to the motherboard and make sure there is no damage. No burning,Discoloration anything that could be potential damage.
Hope this works atleast to get the PC booting up.

remove and replace the power supply, before it does more damage. It sounds like it's been spiked.

My laptop will not power up

Do you mean there is no sign of life in your laptop??? If yes then there are a number of reasons for it. The dead battery, but should run when plugged into mains. Dead power-on switch on the laptop. Bad BIOS chip. Disconnected motherboard. A bad BIOS chip is unlikely but a bad power-on switch is very likely. And for both these items you will have to open up the laptop. And then replace the power-on switch.

Hard drive not found in bios.

Thanks for using FixYa!

There are three possibilities why your HDD(hard drive) is not showing up. 1. Its already a bad drive (failing HDD mainboard). 2. Loose HDD cable inside your laptop. 3. Bad laptop sata port. Hopefully its just #2 but most of the time its #1. Bring your computer to a technician. They will be able to easily isolate the problem. I hope this helps.

Toshiba Laptop not Taking Charge

ya the solder connection connecting the ac power input onto the transformer is probably weak. aside from taking the case apart and resoldering the connection, not much else you can do.

E-machine Model D2246 does not power up

E-machines are notorious for having weak power supplies. Although not impossible, it is unlikely the motherboards are damaged.

You may also look online for rebuilt power supplies that are beefed up from the originals.

Be sure you have a good surge suppressor and surge suppression on your phoneline if you use dialup. I also recommend surge suppression on your ethernet connection as well.

Comp wont start up

The hard disk may have died. Check the BIOS and check the hard disk setting, if it appears OK then boot up with a DOS floppy startup boot disk, and select boot up without CD-ROM support, then type fdisk, answer Y to large disk support, select 4 to Display partition information.
If you see all your disk partition the most likely your hard disk is OK.
Most likely you operating system is damaged/corrupted and you will need to reinstall your operating system and drivers for all your devices.

There's not going to be a simple fix for this. First check the jack on the computer to see if it's loose or broken. If so then the jack will need replaced. If not, then the problem will be with a power management system chip on the motherboard. Either way, the motherboard is going to have to come out in order to fix the problem. Hope for the broken jack, this is repairable and will run approx $100. If it's the power management system, then the board will have to be replaced, and that's expensive.
