SOURCE: lens wont retract or extend when pushing the power

Can you turn the camera on by pressing the playback button? This should turn the camera on to view pictures on the card without opening the lens.
Check the tab on the battery door. it should activate a micro switch next to the card slot on the main board. If this is damaged then the camera will not power up.
If the lens is stuck then this will also prevent power up

My pictures are fuzzy no matter what setting the camera is on

My wife has this problem cuz she doesn't know the cameras outo focus if the thing she covers with her fingernail when she goes to take a picture. If your lens is clean and there is light then the camera is in focus some where even if not where it is supposed to be and you can figure that out easy. Take a measuring tape and extend it to 20ft (optical infinity) on the sidewalk then take a picture of the extended blade from about 6 to 12inches off the ground. You will see where it focused. now you can set a stuffed animal anywhere along the tape and test the auto focus. Half press of the button ( watch the fingers don't cover the sensor or the emitter. :-) Oh, if this doesnt work then you have purchased a camera that was dropped when it was open and damaged the alignment.

Error code S0042, DIMAGE G600

The S0042 error code relates to a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended)
Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. Let me know if it worked!

Tip

Fix lens that won't extend fully

If your A360 only extends the lens partway when you turn the camera on in picture mode, there is an easy solution that requires no technical knowledge whatsoever. Mine exhibits this behavior most of the time, and I've experimented it with it and found that these two things help:

1. Hold the power button down the entire time the lens is extending. For whatever reason, this seems to help.

2. If your lens extends only partway (if this is the case the screen and all pictures you take should be blurry), simply hit the macro mode button (the little flower to the left of the zoom) twice. This works because when you go into macro mode, the camera automatically brings the lens to its lowest zoom, which is meant to bring the lens back from a high zoom, but also works in reverse. You may have to repeat this procedure a couple times each time you start the camera (you'll know it's fixed when you no longer hear the motor whine when you press the button).

One last tip: if you've had this problem before and you start up your camera and it seems fine, use trick number 2 anyways, just to double check that the lens is indeed in the correct position. I've made the mistake of assuming, based on the fact that the picture on the screen looked sharp, that the lens was fully extended. When you look at your pictures, you may find that all of them (even those taken with a tripod!) may be blurry.

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Turning camera on

Take it back to where you got it or send it to Kodak because this should be a warranty issue. I repair these camera's all the time and it should like 1 of 2 things main controller is not making proper connection or a cold solder joint and the connection is intermediately connection making it work once in a while I hope this help you decide on what to do.
