I would not even go through telling you witch capcitors because I would not know witch ones failed as I cannot see the unit. But I would recommend you replace the whole convergence board why? Because if you tried to repair each and every componet chances are something else will go wroung.

These units fail for a reason not just because of age there are many factors invoved such as heat, Dust, normal usage.

Lets face facts here if you where to replace compactors sure it will work for a little while then you back at it again. Buy a new convergence board and end the frustration now.

If you want tips on how to repair a convergence this would be hard and time consuming emailing back and forth I'd rather save you time and more money in the long term replacing the convergence board.

Hi

No convergence means the problem is that your Convergence chips(IC's) are shot. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's (STK392-110's) MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice. Also check all the cold solder joints on that board and try to repair them.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Most likely you are going to need new convergence chips just look through your phone book and find a small local repair shop you wont be charged an arm and a leg and it will look as good as new . If you are handy, buy the repair kit.

Tip

How to fix convergence problems for RCA chassis ITC222.

Your projection TV looks like you are watching 3D video and none of the colored beams are aligned. You go to the menu to set the convergence and find that the convergence adjustment menu is missing. What is causing this?

Basically you need three parts which will be installed in the area of the flyback transformer. An electrolytic capacitor, a fuse and a diode. This circuit supplies dc power for the convergence circuit and without it the convergence circuit will not work. Without convergence correction your unit will look like it is in 3D and you will have red and blue shadows around all text, etc.

You need to get a kit at http://www.tvrepairworld.com/rca_repair_kits . You want the one labeled ITC222 and ITC222A convergence option missing repair kit. It comes with very good instructions and appropriate schematics to make the repair possible by anyone. In addition there are videos available on the parts website to help with the repair.

This kit will fix the problem with the missing convergence menu but may not fix all the problems with the miss-convergence in the unit. If it does not solve all the problems go to my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6396176-projection_tv_troubleshooting which will help with further troubleshooting. You could also have problems with the convergence board, which may have blown out the power supply for the circuit in the first place.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

My picture gets smaller and the picture shakes, sometimes if you tap the side of the set it will go back to normal screen size and the picture clears up but not for long.

Mark,by now your TV has many, many bad grounds and weak to bad capacitors. If you know anything about electronics, heat is the number one enemy of TVs. If you can pull out the convergence board, you will see many ICs, transistors, jumpers, resistors and diodes etc, in dire need of resoldering. It takes a very keen eye to find these. The next board under consideration would be the power supply. Once again bad grounds and weak to bad capacitors are here.If you feel you can repair this, please find a good soldering pen. I would suggest you purchase a soldering pen from an electronic specialist. Do not purchase the soldering pen that has a screw located near the tip of the pen. These are unregulated and will make for almost an impossible good soldering. You will need ab ESR meter to find bad capacitors. Your best repair would be to find an electronic hobbiest to repair this, if you can not! Thanks for asking, and show a few hands of support!

Nothing in that circuit has stored voltage that will chock you. When its running it only has about 27volts. Just unplug your set the night before your going to get started and your fine. Everything will be discharged by then.

Blurred picture red and blue shadows

Hi,
Please run the convergence feature on your TV. Its giving you double image because the red, green, and blue guns are dis aligned. By running convergence it will realign the guns properly. You need to run the convergence feature at least once a week. Please note this is only for CRT rear projection TV's and I assumed it was. If it is an LCD rear projection, then there's nothing you can do to fix such thing, but call a repair person. But if doing the convergence doesn't fix the problem, you need to call a repair person. But I hope you won't have to refer to the manual on how to go about it
Good luck!

Ok thanks for the info Now this is an indication of convergence issues(3d effect) the bowing issue idicates a complete loss of convergence power. which possible could be the convergence ic or the actual power feeding them. im feeling like it might be the ic overheating these get very hot. now the bad news. this is a set that is very difficult to work on. Rca has compiled a long list of problems with this set. getting to the chips is a chore. i cannot recommend repairing this set. I know no one likes to hear this.

there are several rca issued suggestions. the top one isChange C19542 on the Digital Convergence PCB from a 10uF 63WVDC capacitor (214698) to a
470uF, 25WVDC capacitor part number 214746.
Also change the 24V zener diode CR19720 (226446) on the Convergence Power Supply board to a
30V 500 milliwatt zener diode, part number 231211 this
but as i said this may or may not be the best solution
