It is possible a static electrical discharge entered the s-video port

then the motherboard may need replacement for the video system to function properly

also try to go under the start>control panel> system> device manager

see any red or yellow expl. points on the video devices,,, or is the computer just dead and won't boot at all

please clarify with the curret status ...

I want to watch a sporting event outside on a big screen using a projector. How do I view the live broadcast from my TV through a projector?

the best way
u need to get external video card (it cost's around 15$ or 20euros)
with this u can watch cable tv or satelite tv on ur lap top or pc
the next step is to plug projector to pc, lap top etc.
that's all
If u don't have cable or satelite, there are many sites on web where u can watch tv for free, if u perfer this way u don't need video card, but picture won't be so great also...
i'll writh u down one of the free tv internet sites

How to clean the LCD screen of lap top ?

you could use a cleaner from Kensington (http://www.kensington.com/html/1081.html)
to clear LCDs and it works great. It comes in a little spray bottle, and I use these neat little 3M 'electronics' microfiber cloths to buff off the spray. Works like a charm.

How do I hook up my lap top to project onto my 42hdt79.

I got it to work using an HDMI output on my laptop. If you are using the VGA connection then you will need to buy a convertor to get it to work. The problem with this TV is that the resolution is 1024x1080 so the picture doesn't look quit right in a when using windows, but video playback looks good.

Video cord

Make sure the TV is configured properly first off, make sure it's one of the auxilaries that are selected. Now if you haven't already, you should usually press F-something to get your lappy on dual display mode (F8 usually). If that fails, you may have to ween through some of the display properties, which isn't a big deal, but would require more of a live chat session to go through, or more info on here and some patience :).

Blurry and shaking pictures on LCD

refresh rate, likely
try to adjust to a compatible rate. the monitor manual will give you its compatible rates. the video card should have that rate available. if not, you may damage the monitor with the wrong rate.
stop and try another monitor that has a refresh rate available on your video card.
good luck
