I was mowing the lawn and my mower just died. I looked at the fuse and the 20 amp was blown. I replaced the fuse twice and after 10 minutes it blew again. The tractor has 18 hours on it and is pretty much in pristine condition. How would I identify a short? I have removed and replaced the cutting deck. Could that effect the wiring in any way? Thanks!

- I think I have found the pinched wire. The outlet of the solenoid cable runs into a casing over the belt drive. It seems to be pinched in that area. What can I do to stop this from grounding?

- Thanks, that did it! Found the pinched wire, wrapped it and slung it up. Just spent 1 1/2 hours and no trouble.
If the problem occured after the deck work check everywhere you worked on the deck. You are lookining for a pinched wire. What is occuring is with the vibration of the mower running the pinched wire will rub and touch ground causing the fuse to blow and shut off the engine. Even if not concerning the deck that is what you have to look for. It can be time consuming but this is what you have to do. The short if not about the deck try checking the seat area this is a common area of problems with shorts in riding mowers.

- Reroute the wire, wrap it in electrical tape, and tie it up out away from deck. Then you should be fine.

- I'm glad the problem is fixed. It may of taken awhile, but just think of the money you saved. A shop would of charged a small fortune knowing you would not know how long it took them to find short and repair. Good Job!!!!

Thanks. I was wondering, I used to check the distributor caps in my old cars in the dark with a mist of water. Could this work in a similar manner?
