Question about RCA RT2280 System

1 Answer

RCA RT2280 surround sound mode button wont select 5.1 dolby digital mode.

I have my dvd player (this player plays 5.1 surround sound dvds) hooked up, I am using an optical audio cable and I select "optical" on RCA RT2280. When I press the "SURR.MODE" button it only cycles through : Dolby Pro Logic ; Dolby 3 Stereo; Stereo. Dolby Digital is not one of the options available. It has worked before and now it won't.

I had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it. Assuming that all of your equipment is powered on, (tv, blu-ray/dvd, rca receiver) you'll need to go into your dvd players audio menu and select the dolby digital audio.
Once you do this, the digital signal is sent to your receiver from the dvd. The receiver should automatically set itself to the dolby digital preset. If it doesn't, press the surround button until you reach it. I found part of this information here. And the rest was personal experience.
Also, it depends on if the disc format is in dolby 5.1. I hope this helps you.

Basic DVD player hookup to TV cable diagram. RCA cable (yellow) video and RCA cables (white and red) audio. This is all you need for picture and sound. If your TV only has a single RF input, then you need a RF modulator. RF modulators accept the yellow, white and red cables and output a coaxial cable to the TV single input jack. Usually the TV is tuned to channel 3 or 4 to pickup the RF modulators output.

Alternative connection options are many and include HDMI for HDTVs, component video and for sound, surround sound digital audio connection using optical or coaxial digital audio cable.

Surround sound requires a decoder such as a A/V receiver with Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 or more. 6 speakers connected to the A/V receiver surrounds the listener.

Bluray players will play DVDs and Bluray discs. Bluray gives you High Definition video and typically connects to a HDTV using a HDMI cable.

Can I connect a Sony DVD Player DVP-SR90 to the Panasonic Home Theatre SC-HT75 to achieve surround sound without direct SCART connection - and how?

You can connect your Sony DVD player to your Panasonic HT using an analog RCA audio cable (white and red) for stereo sound. Connect to the AUX inputs on the HT and select AUX. Since the Sony DVD player only has SCART, you would need an adapter, scart to RCA. Like this one:

Check for compatibility. Use the red and black RCA plugs for the audio into the HT.

Your Panasonic HT does not have a digital audio input which would be required for multi-channel surround sound (Dolby Digital 5.1)

There are 5 slots for five speakers. the only ones that work are the top two. is there any way i can fix this?

It sounds like it's just playing in stereo mode, not surround-sound mode.
Play a DVD, and check the remote for buttons like "Surround" or "Dolby" or "Bypass"

Apparently, the use of the built-in DVD player doesn't allow sound field manipulation; but external sources can be modified. This subject is only discussed in this section of the manual...

I have an lg lcd mod#lc427d hdtv how do i hook up an rca rt2280 system to it. i have a dvd player hooked up to tv now using hdmi cables, rca av reciever does not have them...

You can check your dvd player for a coaxial or an optical sound output, then you can plug it directly to your receiver. Those two are the best options after HDMI. Another option is A/V RCA type cable, you´ll need 3 stereo A/V wires, in order to connect the 6 channels. Remember to uncheck the HDMI sound output option on the DVD menu.

Lg home theater to lg plasma tv

This is a typical problem with TV broadcast UNLESS you use a matrix DSP surround sound mode, most DVD audio is either Dolby digital 5.1 surround or DTS multi-channel surround sound, unless you are viewing a HDTV broadcast with 5.1 Digital sound connected from the TV to the receiver then you are probably receiving a 2 channel Stereo sound format, I would suggest that you try to set your TV input mode to a audio Dolby Pro- Logic which will yield 5.1 and should engage all speakers.

Surround cuts out???

Are you useing a digital audio cable when its cutting on & off? How long between the on & off? I have the same problem when I use a digital audio cable or a coaxial audio cable from my DVD player. To use the surround (6 CH) feature you need to use the 6 channel RCA jacks and if what ever your hooking up dosent have the RCA outputs your out of luck. My DVD player does have the 6 channel outputs and they work but the digital cables won't work. What are you connecting to it? I think something is wrong with the digital circuit board in mine, I would like to replace it and see. Reading your manual will help understand the 6 channel RCA and fiber optic digital cables. I hope any of this helped.
