How do u remove recoil spring assembly that is held in place by a roll pin on a 4hp Briggs and stratten

I suspect you asked this question because your recoil starter rope has broken , so first let me say be extreemly carefull the coiled spring on top of rope pully has a lot of tension to it , it can and will hurt you if it gets out of the pocket it sets in, what ive allways done is to NOT remove the pully at all but hold it with a large C clamp i put this on right after i get about 6 good turns to tighen the spring then i apply clamp , use a razor knife to cut ball off end of old rope and pull out using pliers thread new rope from outside rope guide to into the rope pully and knot if off in original hole (use a lighter to part melt rope end) measure off about 5 feet of rope and tie starter handle on there then its simple just slowly let clamp pressure off the pulley will pull rope in to cover automaticly done !!!

Pull starter string is broken

Hi ed this is a time consuming one. Firstly remove the starter head and turn it over. Then by hand turn the cord holder anti clockwise by hand until the spring inside cant turn no more. Get some one to hold the whole lot and then try and thread the new string through until it goes through the hole in the pully. When its in Tie a big knot in the end and then pull the cord down so its tight. Release the cord pully slowly and it should retract back in with the strength of the spring. This should fix it.

Starter cord on lawnmower will not pull out

Hi Mary. You will need to remove the starter box on your mower. The coil box may be rusty or the pully may need fixing. Try using some oil spray and see if the pully now works. If the starter coil is clean the mower may be ceased.

Recoil starter repair

It sounds like the spring has come loose or broken. Remove head and see if you can twist by hand. If it feels like it's tightening then spring is ok. Let it go then remove cord with knife and turn winder back until tight. Feed string pully through and knot the end.Release inside of pully and it should work.If this dont work it will need a new spring.

How do I put the drive belt back on my yard man automatic riding lawn mower?

The v side of the belt goes in the v of the pullies and the flat side of the belt rides on the flat pullies. It looks like the flat idle pully is bent out of alinement. The one showing in video with no belt on it that is the last pully the belt runs on before returning to engine. The belt comes from the engine to a spring loaded flat pully, to v pully on right of mower ,to v pully on left, to flat idle pully // that looks to be bent // then back to engine. Put belt on all pullies saving the spring loaded pully for last.

Pull start cord got pinched. Dumb me took off

Yes you can put the spring back in but it takes patience. Wind the spring inside the pully first. Then install the cord on the outside of the pully. Make sure you wind both in correct direction. You probably should replace the cord while you have it apart. The parts would be listed by the engine brand and model number, not by MTD. Probably a Briggs & Stratton engine? You can go to their web site to get part numbers. Or you can try a place like
