Question about Toshiba Satellite A35-S1592 Notebook

Toshiba Satellite A35 S159 AC PROBLEM Can a laptop run just on the ac without the battery? I just watched a video on youtube and the guy said if you want to save your battery you can take it out and run on straight AC adapter power I am having problems while AC is plugged into computer and wall outlet that my computer starts acting like its only on battery power and doesn't recognize the ac is actually plugged in. Someone here said to clean the battery connectors with alcohol and q tip. Can't it just run without the battery if I take the battery out? There are some very useful techniques on the internet on getting your battery to last longer. Like letting it run out occasionally, changing your power settings, screen lighting, etc.

Yet you need to set up what is called a hardware profile so that you can use the Laptop on either AC power only or on AC Power and Battery. Although it is normally used for docking it can still be used for the battery.

One profile for the office where the laptop is docked and the network adapter enabled, and a second profile can be created for use when you are working away from the office that disables the network adapter but enables the modem.

To set up hardware profiles in XP, complete the following steps:

  1. On the desktop, right click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. From the Hardware tab, click the Hardware Profile button.
  3. Under the list of available hardware profile, select Docked Profile or Undocked Profile and click Copy.
  4. Type in a new name for the profile and Click OK.
  5. Select the new profile and click Properties. Select the check box beside This is a portable computer. Select the docking state for the profile. Click the option to Always include this profile when Windows starts. Click OK.
  6. You can now use Device Manager to enable and disable devices for a hardware profile.

Some people do say that if you totally discharge a rechargeable battery and then fully recharge it you will get a greater AmpHour from it but this will be negligible as all batteries have a standard number of Amps that it will deliver built into it, it may fall with age. Although rechargeable batteries don't just fail like normal dry cells they tend to fail over a period of time and fool us a bit.

Almost forgot you will need to go into the Device manager and disable the the correct subdivision normally at the top of the

    - (your PC's name)
    +Batteries
    +Microsoft AC Adapter.
+Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery (disable this on the AC Only profile)

Rename the existing profile to AC + Battery Power and copy and rename the new one to AC Power Only

NOTE: This will only work on a laptop as desktops don't have a rechargableable ACPI compliant battery to disable.

    LOL

The power jack is broken and I need to replaced it. I have one available now but looks like I need to remove the mother board from the laptop. How is that done?

with great difficulty, you may be in luck and find an online guide with video on youtube.
There is a service guide for the A30, this should help with stripping the laptop, it takes a while to load, http://tim.id.au/laptops/toshiba/satellite%20a30.pdf

I need to install drivers for a35-s159.The Toshiba support page no longer supports this model.I need the modem and Ethernet drivers according to my hardware mngr

Wow, I can't believe they removed it from their support page. bummer.

You can try a simple Windows Update.

It should detect the missing drivers.

Let me know if it doesn't.
