Open the access door to the WiFi adapter and re-seat the module.

Try this first before you give up...any usb adapter will work by the way....just keep the windows wirless utility as your main wireless software.

Windows WiFi Fix,

Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.

Windows XP:

Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager

My everex stepnote laptop randomly stops seeing the wireless adaptor, and when \i look in device manager, doesnt see the wireless connection at all

I had a similar issue with mine. The wireless adapter has an IRQ issue, which may explain the issue. I would recommend turning it off and replacing it with either a mini PCIe wireless card (such as the intel 3 or 4000 series which are like $8-15 on ebay) or a USB wifi card.

How to install an wirless adapter to mi desktop

Install a wireless network adapterIn areas that are served by a wireless network, you can connect to a computer network without using a cable, and surf the Internet or connect with other computers. To connect to a wireless network, your computer needs a wireless network adapter.
Many new computers-especially laptops-come with wireless adapters. Before using your computer, check to see if it already has a wireless network adapter.
If your computer doesn't have a wireless network adapter, you can install one.
Install a wireless USB network adapter. Most people prefer this type of adapter for any type of computer, because it's easy to install.
Install a wireless CardBus or CF network adapter. For portable computers, this type of adapter (also called a PCMCIA or PC Card) is easier to travel with than a USB adapter, because it is often smaller and fits securely in the PC Card slot on the side of the computer.
Install a wireless internal network adapter. If you have a desktop computer, you may prefer an internal adapter so that you can use the USB port to connect another accessory.
The type of adapter you install depends on your computer and your level of expertise.
How to determine if you already have a wireless network adapterMany portable computers manufactured after 2000 have wireless networking built in. However, because the antenna is hidden inside the computer, it's not easy to see.
To see which network adapters are currently installed in your computer
1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Microsoft Windows XP displays your network adapters. Wireless network adapters are labeled Wireless Network Connection. If an adapter displays a red X, it is disconnected. If the Network Connections window is blank, your computer doesn't yet have a wired or wireless network adapter.

Cant connect wireless I have two be hardwire in order to access the internet. my laptop has the ability but i think some of my drivers are not installed. and or utilities?

To verify if there is no driver installed in your wireless adapter you can go to the device manager and look for a question mark, if there is a question mark that means that there are drivers that are not installed in your computer-possible is your wireless driver. You can follow the link below to download and install the driver for your wireless. If there's no yellow question mark visible in your device manager that means that all drivers are installed properly including your wireless driver. If you don't have a utility for your wireless adapter you may have to use the wireless zero configuration of XP.

click Start > Run > type services.msc then look for the Wireless Zero Configuration. Double click it and on the pop-up window set it to automatic and click on start button then press ok. A wireless icon on the lower right corner of your screen should appear if you turn on your wireless adapter. Usually a laptop uses a key combination to turn on wireless adapter.

Fn + F2 etc. etc. You can look for a button that has the wireless symbol and if you see that just press the Fn button following the button for the button that has the wireless signal.
