Question about Panasonic NN-H965 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

H98 error message. Micowave not heating, stops after 37 seconds

After re-plugging in the microwave, all seems to be in order. You can set it to cook as normal. It starts, turntable turns, fan is on, light is on, but it is not heating. After 37 seconds it stops completely and gives the H98 error message on the display.
This is the second Panasonic microwave we have had. Each has lasted about a year. I think Panasonic can do better. The first microwave I had was a Samsung and lasted for years. We eventually gave it to someone else because we needed a larger model.
The Panasonic service rep here will not take walk ins nor give free estimates. He has to come to the house for a $50 charge plus any parts and labor. I'm not satisfied with that. By the time we add parts and labor we could purchase a new one. I will not go out of my way to buy Panasonic again.

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

Error code H98

Hello

Unplug the microwave and plug it back in after 30 seconds to make sure the message did not appear because of a simple glitch. If it does not come up again, use the microwave as normal.

The "H98" error means that the microwave's inverter has shorted out and does not work any more. The microwave cannot transfer power to create heat, and the part has malfunctions and requires replacement. Use your microwave serial number and customer service to find the proper part for the microwave.

Your microwave comes with a warranty that will cover the inverter if the warranty is still valid. Call the number for the warranty department or bring the microwave, with receipt, back to the store you purchased it from. This will save you the hassle of replacing the par

Power to microwave but does not cook food

You didn't mention your brand or model number, but I'll assume it's a Panasonic since you posted this under a Panasonic category.

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://207.234.249.73/mwd/safety.txt , http://207.234.249.73/mwd/disassembly.txt and http://207.234.249.73/mwd/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor.

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other.

Display codes H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Doesn't work

No model number?? I'd be pretty suspicious why someone removed the model / serial tag!!

I'd be even more suspicious if someone sold you a microwave with such a serious problem without informing you of it in the auction item description beforehand.

H98 means you have a bad inverter, magnetron, or control board.

You can find a troubleshooting chart for this error code here.
