Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a kitchen aid dishwasher model number KUD101TJBLO. I have had the thermal fuse replaced numerous times. It may run two weeks ir it may rub two cycles then the fuse blows. My serviceman has given up on finding a solution. He has replaced the control board and the door switch. However it continues blowing the fuse. I read on the internet that you need to replace the entire wiring kit that comes with the fuse but my repairman says this will not fix the problem and refused to replace the kit. Therefor I ordered the fuse kit myself and was going to replace it, but the wiring is different than what is described in the instructions. My dishwasher has an extra wire I don't know what to do with. Any suggestions?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check for the short on the wires near the heating element. Also check the resistance of the heating element, it should not be more than 1.6 K ohms. Also make sure that the wiring going to and from heating element is fine and you are using a grounded power supply. Also check for any shorts on the control board.

Click on the picture to zoom in. Also tell me if you were getting any error codes prior replacing the control board or after replacing the control board. Also tell me if any light is blinking.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

My Kitchen Aid Dishwasher model # KUDS40FVSS0 has blinking cancel, sani-rinse and normal wash lights. It will not run at all. We replace the control board and still nothing. Please Help!!!

I have had this problem. Mine didn't work for over a week and by the time the repair man came over to 'replace the board' it suddenly worked. The guy told me that if you use ANY type of liquid dishwashing soap (for your sink) and any residue/bubble is on the dishes, it can cause your dishwasher to break. I have no idea why but I've been really careful to make sure I wasn't using dish soap prior to putting them in the washer.

I've had 3 service calls on this dishwasher since I purchased it 3 years ago. I'm having similar service issues with my Kitchen Aid Fridge. And of course no help from Kitchen Aid.

Thermal Fuse

If the dishwasher won't start the thermal fuse might have blown. The thermal fuse helps to prevent damage to the dishwasher by turning off power so that it doesn't overheat. Once blown, the thermal fuse will have to be replaced for the dishwasher to work. The thermal fuse is usually located in the control panel on the control board or mounted to the bottom of the tank behind the lower panel. The thermal fuse can be checked for continuity.

Door Switch

The door switch, or switches, are sometimes called interlock switches. The door switch prevents the dishwasher from running while the door is open. If the dishwasher won't start, the switch or switches might be defective. To access the door switches, remove the control panel or inside door panel - depending on the model. They can be tested for continuity.

Door Latch

If the dishwasher does not start, the door latch assembly might be defective. These are normally made of plastic and cannot be repaired. If the door won't latch and the door latch is broken, replace it.

Main Control Board

The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. If the dishwasher won't start the main control board might be defective. You should first check for more common parts. Many times control boards are replaced unnecessarily because the problem was not diagnosed properly.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the touchpad is defective, the control board might not get the signal for the selections made. If the dishwasher won't start and the display doesn't seem to change properly when the buttons are pressed, the touchpad might need to be replaced. On some models the touchpad and control panel are sold together and will need to be replaced at the same time.

Timer

The timer allows power to flow to the proper parts at the proper times. If the dishwasher won't start, the timer might be defective. Keep in mind that timers are often misdiagnosed as the cause of a problem. Check other components first before replacing the timer.

No power kitchen aid dishwasher mod kuds01flss6 what do I check first after checking the door switch?

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I understand by reading your post which indicates it is a
kitchen aid dishwasher mod kuds01flss6 you appear to have a concern with no power to the control, correct ?

The one thing I'd suggest is the thermal fuse, typically the symptom you've described is associated with a bad thermal fuse. (part #
8193762)
Here's a helpful link below to a video from "repairclinic.com" to assist in changing (or simply checking it as shown in the second link) the fuse kit...it generalizes on most Whirlpool built dishwasher's such as yours, but if slightly different it is essentially the same.

I'll watch for your reply and try and help going forward. Hopefully this will provide you with the solution you seek, but please keep me posted if not.
...If so, please take a moment to rate the assistance provided for you here today. Good luck and thank you for choosing FixYa.

MODEL duiioixtpq3 ser. # fs0201257 will not run, no lights on anywhere. how old is this dishwasher?

The model number is actually "DU1101XTPQ3". If the model number you listed this question under is correct, there is a thermal fuse located inside the control panel of the dishwasher. The part number for the thermal fuse replacement is 8193762.

If you type in your model number you can utilize the exploded view parts diagrams at pcappliancerepair.com, appliancepartspros.com or searspartdirect.com to assist you in locating the part. The fuse is listed as item 6 under the "Control Panel Parts" section.

To replace the fuse, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the dishwasher is unplugged or the breaker is turned off.

2. Open the door and remove only the top screws directly behind the control panel.

3. Remove the protective cover from back of the control panel to expose the main control board.

The thermal fuse should be mounted to the control board. If you remove it and take a resistance check, it should read close to 0 ohms, if good. If bad, replace as necessary. Make sure you follow the installation instructions on the replacement fuse.

The age of the appliance is determined by the SERIAL NUMBER. The following link explains how this is determined on Whirlpool manufactured appliances:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3576437-determining_the_age_of_your_whirlpool_ap

The SECOND DIGIT in the serial number determines the YEAR it was manufactured. The first TWO NUMBERS following that digit, represents the WEEK (52 weeks in a year) that it was manufactured. So...if I'm reading your serial number correctly, this dishwasher was manufactured January 2005.

If you have any questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you

Kitchen aid dishwasher fuses

There may be a thermal fuse located on the electronic control board housing that may have failed. This replaceable part (gray or white) is clipped on to the side of the housing. It will not look like the type of 'fuse' you may be accustomed to. It could be a round or bullet style.
