The nuvi will accept a charge when connected to a computer if the computer connection is done through a powered USB port. Garmin part number 010-10723-00 which is an AC power adapter is also available for charging the unit. www.gpscity.com/garmin-nuvi-zumo-international-ac-adapter.html
If
the unit is new you get a free map update within the first few months
after that they will charge a fee, but you can still update the unit for
software and fixes. Here is what you need to do to update the map your Garmi nuvi; first make sure the unit is fully charged, then go to the Garmin web site and
register your product. Next download Garmin Updater and connect your nuvi with a USB cable directly to your computer and not thru a USB hub.
Let the update go directly to the GPS and not a folder. It will take a
few hours even with a fast internet connection. When done follow the instructions on your screen. I have attached a link
to the Garmin site. Thanks for using FixYa

Try it on a different computer: sometimes the USB connection is simply unable to provide sufficient power on some machines. If that fails then try a different USB lead as yours may be faulty. If the unit charges correctly in the car, then the USB socket on your Garmin is definitely OK.
Ok, first of all, in order to PIN lock the unit, you have to enter the same exact 4 numbers twice in a row. Even if your 2 year old was coordinated enough to do that, the security location for the unit is the location at which the PIN was entered. Therefore, assuming you were not touring Europe at the time the PIN was entered, the unit would unlock whenever you returned to where the unit was locked originally.
No, resetting the unit will NOT reset or remove the PIN. The only other thing you can do is send the unit back to Garmin. But beware: if you cannot prove to Garmin you legitimately purchased this unit, they will NOT return it to you.
When using a usb from your computer it is only a trickle charge to the garmin. Will take a day or two to fully charge. If you use a the cigarette lighter plug that came WITH the garmin, it will fully charge in 4 hours. Stick with garmin approved plugs and all will go smooth. I know, I made the same error.
