Question about Kitchen Ranges

2 Answers

Here's hoping!!! My 12 yr old Rangemaster 110 has developed a problem with one of the ovens. It ignites, and a flame comes on. But thats as far as it goes!!! It does not increase the temperature, but stays as if its on the lowest setting. Any advice would be welcome.

I have looked at the User Manual and you have a faulty Thermostat which MUST be fitted by a qualified service engineer. One other way to check is to buy an oven thermometer and test yourself. Sorry no quick fixes.

You need to introduce more air to the flame. There is an adjustment just before the burner tube on the pipe from the knobs. My advice is to get a gas engineer to do it as he will also adjust the low setting for the flame which is also likely to be out of adjustment. It will only take him 30 to 40 minutes.

the flame safety device need replacing (FFD)... this lets the full gas through when flame is sensed... safety 1st as a gas engineer will be required..

Rangemaster 110 gas grill flame

your burners are not burning good because they need to be cleaned and the loud popping noise is the gas burning in the ventury until it burns it self out its a very common thing

the part that you need is the oven ignitor, located nest to the oven burner. that part gets hot to open the gas to the burner, that will make the oven work again.

Oven will not respond

The knob won't have any effect on the flame size.  The knob controls temperature.  If you're referring to the pilot light staying on and then the main flame not going on...that's another problem.  If the main flame will not go on, the assembly that controls the main flame is likely defective.  If the unit has a thermocouple, you might change it out first.  Sometimes, that's all that is needed and they're cheap.

Reading the user manual, it states that the flame initially comes on low, until it is "sensed" by the flame sensing device. This to me sounds suspiciously like the flame isn't being sensed and so never gets increased to the normal level.
I've not had time for a proper look at it.... but from a quick glance this morning this looked like a "flame rectifier" probe next to my burner (as we commonly use in boilers to sense if the gas burner is lit). This is just a metal probe. They send a high-ish AC voltage signal (Sine wave) from it, through the flame, to the earthed metal case. The flame acts like a diode (yes it really does work !) and simple electronics detects the change in the applied signal (rectified) due to the flame. I know from personal experience they (the probes) get coated with crud (carbon, etc) and need a good clean. I suggest you try cleaning both it and the metal area opposite it. If necessary the probes metal tip could be GENTLY rubbed with very fine Emmery cloth, etc, if badly coated.
Other than that, if it is sensing the flame, then it must be the gas control device (solenoid valve ?) that is jammed, blocked or just defective.
Simples......

some older ovens did use one side just as a "bread warmer"...only way to tell for sure is to check if there is a burner below the left side
