    What I really need to do is make the new phone the same extension as the old phone. Since phones have moved around our office over the years, I'm not certain that this person's extension will match the drop. This phone is currently extension 513, but it may have been in a different spot as this person changed offices and took the phone with her. Hope this isn't too confusing.

If the extension was a swap of the old M7310 with a new(ish) M7310 no additional programming should be necessary. However if the phone was replaced with another type of nortel set(M7208, M7324,T7313 etc.) then the phone will default to its base features. To re-program the feature keys press feature *3, the button you wish to program, and the feature code for that button

    yup, sounds a little confusing, but we'll figure it out. The new extension that you put in, whats the extension number of that one?(you can tell by pressing feature *0 and pressing the intercom button)

Just think about it, why would you want to auto dial yourself? You don't need an autodial key for yourself so the system don't allow you to program it.

On Nortel M7310 only the handsfree will work...the reciever will not work at all

Most likely, the switchhook button (under the handset) is in need of repair. Have a qualified repair shop repair or refurbish the phone.

In my workplace, when you move the Nortel M7100 phone, the programmed info (extension number, etc) moves along, just like if I was rewiring all phones. Have you tried just to unplug the phone and plug it on the new location? Here the extension number moves along with the equipment... (Nortel Norstar M7208 and M7100). Good Luck!

How do you change passwords without knowing previous passwords in order to change voicemail greeting??

Actually, even as a technician, you will never know the origonal password.
But you can get in to reset the existing password back to 0 0 0 0.

There are a couple of steps; depending on your voicemail system, voicemail's are done differently, but try this first.

got to a M7310 set
-> dial FEATURE 9 8 3
-> password: 1 0 2 0 0 0 0
-> you should now see ADMIN and under that MBOX, AA, OTHR
press MBOX
-> press CHNG
-> dial the extension of the phones that you need changed
-> you should now see PASSWORD and under it RESET, press RESET (This resets the mailbox back to 4- zero's)
-> hit the * to back up and repeat fopr all the other extensions.
-> hit RLS after all is done and voila... you have now changed those passwords to those mailboxes.

Now when the new users dial F981 at their desks, and dial 0 0 0 0 the first prompt they get is pleasde change password.

Your system administrator (usually your senior secretary or whoever runs the phone system) needs to reset the password (automatically resets to 0000).

M7310 phone buttons

Wow, you should get 2 lines and at least one intercom by default. Lines are assigned in most Nortel systems in Terminals & Sets. Your COPY command is your friend. Just pick a phone you wnat to emulate and copy it to your new set.
