Computer wont completely boot

Hi,
My computer will not completely boot. I know my battery is dead but it happens when I am pluged in. Someone told me this could be the problem

-   Whenever I start the computer it locks up (not always at the same spot). Sometimes I will get as far as my desktop but as soon as I move the mouse it is done. I have had problems in the past with the screen periodically going blank and having to restart. Could this be my motherboard?-   kimberly_kas

-   My HP dv4030us started by having the cursor freeze, then very slow boot, finally nothing. Try to power up the computer and the power light starts, the DVD/CD drive spins,the hdd light comes on for 30-40 seconds (solid, no flashing), no beeps, screen is black, hdd light goes out and to turn off the power you need to hold the power button down for 5+ seconds -   donner0219

-   the laptop will not boot up at all, no screen, no fan, nothing. Removed the battery and tried booting up with just the power cord. Nothing. The on light is on, but nothing is working. Any information would be great, thank you ever so much for your time.

Nope a bad battery will not keep a machine from booting..

Does it shut off or do you get an error or does nothing come up when you turn it on???
