Question about Olympus SP-310 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Suddenly for no apparent reason Windows XP fails to recognise the camera. Have tried reinstalling the software, checked all the ports and the camera is accepted on my friend's XP

As I mentioned in my message I had already checked all the USB ports! They're fine because my scanner works on all of them. And while I'm at it I have also told you that I've reinstalled the driver and confirmed too that everything's OK when the camera is connected to another XP computer.

So have you any useful suggestions?

    Regards

    Hello again

    Thanks for your prompt reply

The problem isn't with my USB ports. They all work for all other hardware (even when I switch them around) but the camera works on none of them. Does that help?

    Ideas please

    Peter

Thanks.

In that kind of problem I would recommend to delete USB driver in computer, (My Computer, Properties, System Properties, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers) run add hardware wizard from control panel and let Windows reinstall USB drivers to refresh it.

    Thanks for update,
Only 4 things are involve in camera hooking with computer, Camera, Computer, drivers and USB cord.
Camera works with on other computers so it is clear and have no problem.
Computer works with other USB devices that means USB ports are working fine.
USB cord/ wire can be broken or internally cracked so please try/ use another USB lead.
Once USB connection established between computer and camera, Windows will detect it automatically and will look for required drivers for file transfer process.

So please check USB lead and check it on another computer or use another wire.
    Thanks.

Did you try uninstalling it and then reinstalling the software?
Have nothing to lose. You can also try a OS repair in case this does not work. Or try XP2/3 versions.

Windows xp will not recognise the seagate freeagent desktop drive

Assuming you have tried other usb ports and had no change, remove the usb connection, then go back into device manager and select the usb controller, right click and select delete as this will erase any input driver the usb port recognises. Restart the pc and then the controller should be reinstalled automatically as it sounds as though the controller has become corrupt for some reason. Go back into device manager and check there are no exclamation marks, reconnect the drive and see if it's recognised.

The emachine model KAWE0 is with operating system windows xp sp1 doesnot recognise any usb device.

Good day sir, hi, usually its one or two ports that does not recorgnise a usb device, but if all ports does not recognise the usb device, check the CMOS setup. check this out;
  • one or two ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a local fault, try to check the CMOS setup, this could also be the port itself is the faulty one having loose connection.
  • all ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a system fault, check again the CMOS setup if the USB port is enabled, check the USB device itself also. to make sure use another pc to test the usb device.
A computer virus can also cause the usb port to malfunction, run an anti virus software, if possible you can reinstall the XP and test the USB port afterward.

If all else fails, you can buy a USB card and plug it on the expansion slot on your PC.

Both the Canon XT 350D and the XTi 400D are recognized by any PC with XP windows operative system. It seems you have to check your USB port or USB cable used to connect your cameras to the PC. Sometimes, the PC does not recognize a specific device connected to an USB port. Yopu can get into the System -device manager screen, and uninstall the USB port, and run the utility to recognize changes in the device manager. This will install the USB port driver again, and if it is a software issue the reason of the problem, then it will be fixed.

Also, you can check your cameras and USB cable in a different PC so you can confirm if they both work has should be.

Software driver problem

Do any other devices connect successfully to that same USB port?
If no, try another USB port.
If yes, when you reinstalled your software, did you uninstall first? If not, see if you can. Once uninstalled, verify that the device is removed via Device Manager.
Once removed, if on XP or Vista, try to connect using the built in system drivers.
If this does not work, try reinstalling your drivers, but be sure to check for system prompts when you connect. If you do not respond to those prompts, the device will not mount.
Let me know how it turns out.

Will not function with Windows Vista

You do not need any software for the camera to be recognised. As you have discovered it can complicate things. Remove the software. Vista like XP before it will recognise the camera via the Camera/Scanner Wizard.
