Question about Honeywell Electronic Programmable Heat/Cool Thermostat - CT3300A100 Heater

1 Answer

My Honeywell programable thermostat started constantly buzzing all by itself 3 days ago. It works fine because today I needed the furnace and it went on. I replaced the batteries to no avail.

Sounds like a solid state relay or transformer in the thermostat is going bad - thermostats are not repairable - replace

If it is a digital thermostat you must follow the set up instructions once you install the wires. Some are multi device,, which means they can be used for oil burners, electric furnaces , and gas furnaces. They have cycle programs that are different. The book will tell you which set up code to use for the type of furnace you have. If it was doing it before, it could be the primary control on the furnace itself (usually a honeywell ),,a sticking relay etc.. you need to have a technician take a look at it.

Honeywell RTH2300 says Heat On, but furnace isn't running.

Your tstat is not the problem. I've not yet worked on an oil furnace. I'm way down south. But either way, if your tstat was calling for heat(heat on), and you pushed a reset at the furnace, more than likely that reset is a safety. OK to reset, but now what ever that safety is preventing from happening, has failed and can not be reset until repaired. The reset should be an automatically opening switch upon unsafe operation. And manually closed to "reset" the safety. That safety is connected to something that is not working properly. Hope this helps!

My furnace works intermittently.

You may have a dirty flame sensor. There are a number of other possible causes as well. Rheem/Ruud/Weatherking furnaces also have problems with the connection on the blower deck.
The flame sensor sometimes must be bypassed around the MOLEX CONNECTOR in the deck due to humidity.
Hope this helps.

Mebnme, is right, manually setting your therm and holding hold, will override any pre-setting program. Also go to honeywell website, order a manual and program your therm yourself, what model do you have?

Hello brandaleepup,
Your problem may be at the furnace control end and not your thermostat. To determine that, simply unhook the two wires from your thermostat so that they do not make contact. When they are electrically opened like that, your furnace should shut down. If it doesn't, then the problem is at the furnace control board. You may have a relay that is staying on even when power to it is disabled.
Hope that helps...

Rick

Need to know which terminals run what

Had similar problem, continuous fan, turn off power, then won't start up. Replaced thermostat, no change. The main controller board in the furnace went bad. What was weird was that it happened in the summer, while the heat was turned off. One day I noticed that the fan was running. The thermostat was in the off position, and I had to shut off power to the furnace to make it stop. I forgot about it till heating season came along and it wouldn't start up. The preliminary blower would start, the gas would click on, it would light, then quit. After tracing and checking the various safety switches, etc. it became apparrent the main board was bad. I found one on ebay, replaced it, [a simple job, unplug, a few screws, replug] and it's been working fine..good luck, John

Honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

Hope that helps...
