Question about Reddy R70ET Utility Heater

1 Answer

Small ReddyHeater won't stay on

I have a smaller (without wheels) unit that stays on for about 5 minutes and then shuts off. When I unplug it and let it set for a minute, It fires back up and does the same thing. I've changed the fuel, (burns oil or kerosene), and have blown it out real good. It's about 3 yrs old, but doesn't have much use on it, and is kept up fairly well.
Thanks to any help

The photocell may be dirty or need to be replaced. Take a look in your owner's manual or check online for replacement part.

Unplug unit for 5 minutes to reset control board. If problem still persists, you will need to call a technician to service it.

The power won't stay on..it turns on for a second then shuts back off

Unplug the set see if it resets. Plug back in after 5 minutes to see if it works then. Otherwise you need a tv repair shop.

I have a glow warm 20000 btu natural gas unvented heater. The unit is wall mounted. It won't stay on for more than 15 minutes, then shuts itself off. Its in a corner if that makes a difference... but has...

well, these heaters are typically thermostat-bound, and I have found that they simply will not burn continuously, like a blue-flame heater. Try turning up the setting--this will make it come on/off more often, effectively heating at least one med-lg room, and partially for adjoining areas. Keep in mind that these only rated for 700-1500 SF--that is NOT the floor measurements, but square feet of airspace; eg., a 10' x 15' room has 10' x 15' x 8' (8 foot ceiling) =1200 sf. That said, My 15k btu wall unit had been the sole heating source for my entire home for 5 years, until last year, when I acquired another smaller unit. However, I typically only use a few rooms, and shut off unused areas (ya, was 'cool' in unused back room areas).

Stays lit for 25 minutes and shuts off

How large and sealed of an area are you using it in? I ask because those units have a low oxygen sensor which will shut it down if there is not enough oxygen in the space.(kinda prevents that pesky suffocation thing). Otherwise if using it in larger cold spaces, the issue is can be from the smaller tanks. As mentioned above, a larger tank can solve this, because these units have a fairly good input rate, which will cause the smaller tanks to freeze, and lower the propane temperature and evaporation rate, basically runs out of gas until the tank warms back up.
