When I turn camera on, lens goes fully out and back in again, about 4 times, then Turn the power off and on again.

Guess work.
When fine sand (or similar particles) get stuck in-between the tubes (lens barrel) the lens will behave that way.
Your case may be caused by something else but its worth trying to fix it yourself first.
Prepare a blower or fine brush, ready in one hand and switch on the camera (either fixed to a stand or stand it on a solid surface) Give it a good blow and brush gently (all around the tubes) while the lens is moving. It will stop and work normal when the foreign body is removed. If this does not work, keep asking because other people might provide a better answer.

Why is my Samsung S1050 no longer taking photos, the outdoor shots are totally 'burnt out' but most flash photos are fine

Don't know if this is the problem but is the camera set on the right setting.
I had a problem whereby the pics were showing like duotones but then found the setting dial had moved when it was put into its case after use. When re-used I did not check to see if it was on the auto setting hence the problem!!

The lens keeps on moving in and out and there is a sign on the screen to turn off and back on the camera... I have a sony cybershot dsc-w55

I have a cybershot DSC-P5 that was doing this. The plastic ring around the lens that is glued to the casing had become warped. We simply popped it off, brushed/scraped the excess glue away and put the casing back on, now it works fine! Just store it properly and keep an extra eye out for dust coming in where the lens used to be.

I dropped my Nikon Coolpix S600 camera on the floor at a concert and now when I turn it on, it says LENSE ERROR and shuts off right away.. and the lens doesnt come out. It just makes a weird noise! Is it...

there are some fine gears that move the lens in/out ... if it dropped on the extended lens then its likely a gear was broken or knocked out of place .. it is likely repairable but its really tricky working on these things .. there are fine wires and delecate stuff inside.. sometimes a particle will get into the gears and keep them from operating .. if thats the case you can try gently moving the lens around to try to free it .. but unless you can find someone familiar with working on this then i think you need a new camera ..one with a strap ..

I had almost similar problems with my A10 from day one. The camera shuts down before the battery is depleted, most of the time while I was operating the zoomlens. I bought a new battery, but that didn't solve it. Later I decided to take it apart as a last option. As my suspicion was the zoomlens I took out two crews of the motor that operates it. Now the motor has a bit more space to move. It seemed to be too tight against the gears so it could cause an overload. After that it worked perfectly. I made pictures for hours without having the same fault again. Be carefull too make notes where all the tiny screws belong of the casing. And maybe it will be enough to just loosen the motorscrews, but leaving them out will not make it fall out of it's place. I hope someone can use this information.

Greetings, Ron Timmermans.

Hi,

Normally there are two reasons for the given problem.

1). Bad or defective CCD. and/or

2). shutter not working.

in the first case the only solution is the replacement of the CCD.

And in the later case sticking of shutter blade, non functioning of shutter blade will cause the problem. This can be rectified by sending it to some repairer.
