Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Open Question

Whirlpool ET8MHKXMQ not cooling - only interior light works.

ET8MHKXMQ model - top freezer, no ice maker - was left plugged in. The interior controls were set to off for several months. Now it does not cool at all when the knob is turned on.

Is there anything more I can do?

SOURCE: Whirlpool GD5RHAXNQ00 Ice maker not making ice

We had a similar problem and there was a broken/stripped gear in the icemaker. A&E replaced it to the tune of $150 or so. I don't recall exactly but I recall my husband thinking he could replace the entire icemaker for the price we paid to repair it. The gear make the ice tray flip out the ice once frozen. Good luck, hope that helps a little.

Just turn the refrigerator off inside on control panel. Then get a hair dryer and melt the ice away from the tube taking care not to get plastic too hot. Sea Breeze

SOURCE: ED2KVEXVL Whirlpool refridgerator - not cooling in refridgerator

Tip: Most self-defrosting household refrigerators that loose part or all of their cooling in the freezer or fridge are having problems with the self-defrost system. Three components to check: defrost timer; defrost heater elements (esp. on side x side units); and evaporator fan. All cold air is normally produced in the freezer, then circulated via evaporator fan to the refrigerator section. About every 12 hrs. a defrost timer turns off the compressor, and turns on the defrost elements to melt the frost from the evaporator coils. This normally takes about 20 minutes to complete, then the timer turns off the heaters, and restores normal cooling operations. If the cycle does not complete properly, the coils will "ice up", restricting proper air circulation through the freezer and refrigerator sections. Worse yet is if timer sticks in defrost mode (rare), it will turn the freezer into an oven. If the defrost system seems to be working normally, then you should check the condensing coils for excess dirt, and vacuum &/or bush the dirt and lint out to restore proper head disipation. It's recommended that you vacuum out a condensor that's located on the bottom of the unit once a year. You should also check the condensor fan (if present) for proper operation. If the condensor fan fails, heat can not be properly released from the condensor, and will cause the refrigerator to 'run all the time' yet not cool efficiently. There are many things to check on modern frost-free refrigerators, before turning to the actual sealed refrigeration system and compressor unit.

Fridge is not becoming cool, fridge is running

Hi, I once had this problem. My freezer and refrigerator were both warm, but I could still hear it running. When the repair guy came out he immediately checked the back interior of the freezer (had to remove a panel) and it was entirely frozen solid with ice. He said the defroster had stopped working, which caused the coils to all freeze. It took him about an hour to get all of the ice off. He replaced the defroster. Total cost was around $250.00. Works fine now.

Ice maker won't work

Most ice makers have some sort of on/off lever to shut off when full, check this for any left over packing material or tape that could holding it making it thing it is full instead of filling to make ice.

Ice maker flooded top freezer compartment

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze
