Question about Amana Dryers

1 Answer

My Amana dryer only stays hot for about 3 - 5 minutes. Then it turns the gas off. The drum rotates fine, the ignitor appears to work fine, but then it shuts itself off. Any suggestions?

Make certain the internal and external exhaust vent is clear of lint or any blockage. If there is no exhaust problem and the glow bar ignitor is working correctly, replace the gas valve coils.

Ge gas dryer heats but doesnt dry

if the flame is lighting you have lint blocking the air flow either in the dryer or in the vent line, also if you have a flame for the first 10 to 20 minutes and then the flame doesn't light you have bad gas coils located on top of the gas valve, when the coils are bad they can work for the first 10 to 20 minutes until the coils get hot and then they fail and you'll see the ignitor glowing orange but no flame, bad gas coils.then when the coils cool down they can work again.hope this helps.you can try removing the vent line from the back of the dryer and see if the flame stays on,if lint is blocking the air from blowing out the flame won't stay lit long enough to dry the clothes.

Gas dryer will not produce heat

SERVICE MANUAL

The basic gas assembly is like that of many American gas dryers of various brands. The power going to the gas assembly comes from the control which is mounted next to the fuse on the blower housing. The control of course gets its power from upstairs via the timer. If the air temp is below that which is required the bimetal inside the control will allow power to go through it and the thermal fuse over to the gas assembly which consists of a flame sensor, an ignitor, and a coupple of control solenoids. So if the control has power and continuity and the fuse is good and power gets to the gas assembly then the ignitor should start to glow. When it gets up to temp it should bend the bimetal in the sensor and shut off power to the ignitor. The ignitor is now a thermocouple, as long as it is glowing it will allow the solenoids to operate. If for some reaon there was no ignition of gas the solenoids will not work when the ignitor cools down. The ignitor stays hot from the flames coming off the burner. So we have ignition now and a blast of heat going into the drum. The rush of warm air is being monitored by the control mounted on the blower housing next to the fuse. When the temp gets up to snuff, the power is shut down to the gas assembly and the flame shuts down. The drum continues to turn and when the temp drops another balst of hot air is called for. So what goes wrong? If it heats some but quits them solenoids are bad. If it clicks but no ignitor then wither the ignitor or sensor is bad. My home movie:

The motore will run, but it is not spinning. The motor smells hot when it is running and not spinning.

Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt.
Here is a link to the belt.

Amana gas dyer wont turn model #lga30aw

Hi.

If the machine stays completely off, does not ignite, does not spark, does not turn, and does not show any sign of power, check the power outlet, and the power cord.

If the machine starts, ignites, but the drum does not turn, then the following parts must be tested:

PS2166310 Motor Switch Kit (part 3 diag 2 )

PS2021298 Motor Assembly (part 5 diag 2 )

PS2046298 TIMER, 4 CYCLE (part 5 Diag 1)

If the Dryer does not ignite or does not heat test the following:

If it does not ignite:

PS2039618 BURNER IGNITOR ASSY (part 7 - diag 4)

PS383994 Two Terminal Gas Valve Coil (p.8 -d.4)

PS383993 Secondary Coil Valve (p.12 d.4)

PS2046673 VALVE,ELBOW SHUT-OFF (p.14 - d.4)

PS2039380 Gas Valve Wire Harness

PS2201082 Limit Thermostat (part 7 - Diag 3)

If it turn but does not heath check also fan assembly and PS2046273 Cycling Thermostat (part 27 - Diag 2)

Dryer won't get hot

First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it) It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off. If the ignitor does not glow then it or the thermostat is bad. If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced. If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Maytag Gas Dryer SDG515DAWW - heating stopped

The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse. If the dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle) thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is energized the flame sensor a%20flame%20sensor%202.bmp flame sensor mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the igniter
a%20igniter.jpg Igniter and that frees up the power so that the coils can be fully energised and open the gas gates. The gas comes out and hits the red hot igniter and you have ignition. It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to the gas valve assembly.
