Startek ST-693AVA/E front panel connection problem (22 pin block)

Hi,

I have a old motherboard which I want to use for a computer to give to my kid of 6 years. the only problem I have is to connect the connection from the front panel etc (power sw, reset , hdd etc) I can not find it on the internet... maybe somebody can help me out??

    The problem is that there is no letters what so ever on the board.

You can identify this in your motherboard but just in small letters, they are also written as RESET SW, HDD LED, POWER ON,

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

In the list click on -> Product Views
Now click on -> S - Front Panel Connector

Motherboard installed in the computer case, the Front panel header is at the Bottom/Right corner.
It has -> F_PANEL <- silkscreened in white underneath it.

Two rows of pins.
The pins on the Top row are numbered EVEN.
The pins on the Bottom row are numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side, coming across to the Right;
Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, No pin, 12, and 14.

Starting on the LEFT side, coming across to the Right;
Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

Pins 11, 12, 13, and 14 are NOT USED.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.
These pins are in the Orange blocks.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.
These pins are in the Blue blocks.

If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

B- CPU Power Connector is at the upper left corner of the motherboard. This power cable is power for the Processor.

Two of my wires inside my computer came undone one is the power led and one is power sw where do they go? thank you


The Gateway GT5408 Desktop PC uses an Intel (Council Bluffs) 945G Viiv motherboard,

Left-click on Components in the list. Scroll down to the heading - Motherboards, and left-click on -

The front plastic cover of your computer is the Front Panel.

The area of pins on the motherboard, that the cables (Wires) from the Front Panel go to, is the
Front Panel Header.

Motherboard installed in your computer, with the Processor to the Top, and Ram Memory slots to the Right, the Front Panel header is at the very bottom right corner.

It is a rectangular block with pins in it, and lays horizontal to the bottom edge of the motherboard.

Left-click on Product View in the list.
Now left-click on, P-Front Panel Connector

As you can see the white rectangular block has 5 pins across the Top, and 4 pins across the Bottom.

The pins are numbered.
They are numbered Odd across the Top, and Even across the Bottom.

Starting at the RIGHT side going across to the Left, on the Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10

Starting at the RIGHT side going across to the Left, on the Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7. There is NO pin 9.


A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
(HDD LED)

Pin 1 is for the Positive wire ( + )
If the HDD LED light is dim when operating, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, (Reset button), IF used.

C) Pin 9 is for a +5 Volt wire. I don't think it is used, but you have the computer, and can correct me if I'm wrong.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED light.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) Pin 10 is N/C. Not Connected. (No kidding Gateway, since there is NO pin there!)

Remember, RIGHT to LEFT.

This shows you a photo of the Front Panel header on the motherboard.

A connection on a motherboard is referred to as a Header.

The Front Panel of your computer is the plastic part where the Power On button is.

The Front Panel header on the motherboard is where the wires from the Front Panel connect to.

The above is not to offend you, or insult your intelligence. Just wanted to give you the exact names of the parts you'll be handling.

Looking at your motherboard with the Processor to the top, and the Ram slots to the right, the Front panel header is located in the very bottom right corner.

Looking at the Front Panel header on the motherboard, you will note the different colors.

There are also Pins that stick up out of the Front Panel header.

Every 2 pins is grouped into one color.

The Front Panel header is located parallel to the outside edge of the motherboard.
There are 2 rows of pins.

One row across the top of 5 pins.
One row across the bottom of 5 pins.

The pins are numbered, as well as grouped into colors.

Starting at the Right side, going towards the Left, on the Top row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9

Starting at the Right side, going towards the Left, on the Bottom row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Pins 1 and 3 ( Yellow ) are for the Harddrive Activity LED.
The light in the front panel that flashes when the harddrive is actively being used.

Pins 2 and 4 ( Green ) are for the Power On LED.
The light in the front of the computer that shows when the computer is on.

Pins 5 and 7 ( Blue ) are for the Reset switch.
The Reset button on the front of the computer, IF, the computer came with one.

Pins 6 and 8 ( Red ) are for the Power On switch.
The Power On button on the front of the computer.

Pin 9 (Black) is for the +5 Volt power

Pin 10 is not used. (Not connected)

The reason I took you the long way, and did not just provide a link to the Front Panel header, is in case you need more information about your computer.

This way you'll have it.

How to connect the front panel sould device?


Do you mean speaker or front panel audio? The front panel audio connector is located at the rear of the board, behind the PCI connectors - the speaker connections are in the panel connector block (2x10 pin header) located at the front left of the board.

With the board in it's normal position, the speaker pins are on the right hand side of that block, on the pin nearest the front and the one 3 positions behind that

Acer m464 front panel connectors


Sorry in the 1st instance for my lack of specific knowledge when it comes to ACER hardware.

Is the model of your MOTHERBOARD - Acer m464?

If so do you happen to still have a manual that came with the motherboard?

Sometimes you can see the pinout in white writing on the mainboard itself near the connector block... have a close look and see if it is there.

The pin out for the connector block will definately be in the mainboard manual. If you don't have the manual then you'll need to do a little searching for it... I'm sure a .pdf of it will be floating around... i guess start at the ACER site.

On the rack mount chassis, are the plastic chassis connectors grouped (ie. 2 wires into 1 connecter for pwr led, etc) or are they individual single pin connectors?

Either way for each group, one should have a little TRIANGLE on the opposing side to the writing. Conventionally this is your positive (+) pin when looking at the pinout diagram. Ensure you have correct polarity for all ur connections obviously.

New motherboard


You don't say what case you are using. If it is proprietary and the front panel header is all in one connector, you can carefully back the connector pins out of the block using precision screwdrivers. I keep a bunch of two pin connectors from junked machines so I can create individual connector sets when changing motherboards (eg, PWR SW, PWR LED, HDD LED and RESET). This also requires that you know the pinouts of both the old board and the new one so you can get everything connected properly.

Very doubtful you will ever find an adapter to change from one front panel block to another.

The 9-pin connector probably uses a spacer pin between the legs of the PWR LED, while it seems the 6-pin does not have RESET.

Upgrading BTX Motherboard


Hi, I think you are looking at the front USB pin aray connector. The on/off switch and LED light pins are usualy along the edge of the board nearest the front of the case. They will be marked with ID: lettering:- pwrs, hdd led, rs-sw, pwr led. If your case has one block plug you will haave to gently seperate the segments and plug them on one at a time. The power and reset switch will work either way but the LED will only work when plugged the right way around, it wont do any harm if they are plugged backwards they just wont work, so experiment. regards mistyman
