Laptop will not boot up c640

I just bought a motherboard from ebay put everything back together and it boots up and ask to hit f1 which I did and remove some spyware. Afterwards I was trying to print something it got hung so I held the power button in until it turned off. When I tried to turn it back on it appears that the hard drive is not being recognized. When I got the motherboard I only added the keyboard and monitor with the same model. What could be causing it not to boot.

Re: laptop will not boot up c640

What program told you to hit F1 to remove spyware? I'm wondering if the machine is virused or spyware'd up to the hilt...
Check the boot order in the Bios- make sure you can see the hard drive in there - if not try reseating the hard drive and check the black interface bar on the end of the hard drive. It's possible the drive got corrupted when you did a power off too. Provided you can see the drive in the bios- boot to the xp- cd using the F12 on bootup- and go to recovery console- type in chkdsk /r and repair the disk errors. This works about 35-45% of the time. There are other recovery commands you can try too- but you need the xp cd to try them. Hope that helps. If you can't see the hard drive in the bios- try another drive you know is good, or put the 2.5 inch drive on a usb external interface and check if you can "see" it on another computer.

Bought a second hand laptop, acer aspire 9301 from a friend ,and cannot find out what the bios password is . Please can you help me.

Disconnect the battery and unplug it. Open it up and pull out the CMOS battery. Wait 3 minutes. Plug it in and boot without the CMOS battery; it should say "password disabled." Put everything back together and boot; happy computing! PLZ leave feedback.

Both errors are related to the backup battery which is located under the main battery. It is probably dead. You can get one on eBay for $3.29 w/free shipping or pay a shop $20 to put one in. If you do it yourself be very gentle plugging it into the tricky little slot - it is possible to break the connector loose from the motherboard but it is an easy repair if you have patience and dexterity. As for the password, try just hitting enter. It is the supervisor password to change the BIOS settings and was probably never set.
Hope this helps.

No boot device available means that there is no Operating System available. F12 is the key that will get you into the Dell BIOS, not F2. Once there change your Boot Order to your HDD first. Good luck!!
