Question about Black & Decker Prestige APP X850 Iron

1 Answer

My toddler pulled my iron off the ironing board and now the dial to turn it on is jammed. Does that mean it is broken and I can no longer use? Or is there a way to fix it? I tried to open it and see what jammed it, but you need a special screwdriver to undo the bottom screws.

Take a knife or a flat blade screw driver,
and pry the knob up,
put your hand over it so nothing will fall far,
then line the two pics together and it should work.

Hello :

Here I'm going to tell you the basics of cleaning your Rowenta iron :

Things You'll Need:1:Rowenta Soleplate Cleaning Kit
2: Ironing board
3:Clean, dry cloth
4:Two cotton terry cloths, such as washcloths

Now to the cleaning :

1:Pour out any water from the iron. Turn the steam iron on to the "Cotton" setting, which is the one with three dots on the settings dial.

2:Cover an area of the ironing board with a clean, dry cloth. Fold one washcloth or other piece of cotton terry cloth in half and place it onto the cloth on the ironing board.

3:Dispense a 2-inch long daub of cleaning solution onto the terry cloth. Run the heated iron over the cloth directly on the cleaning solution. Move the steam iron in a circular motion over the cleaner on the cloth for a minute or two.

4:Remove the steam iron from the cloth. Carefully wipe any remaining cleaning solution from the soleplate using the second terry cloth.

5:Add water to the steam iron. Turn on the "Steam" or "Burst of Steam" feature. Run the iron over the clean, dry cloth on the ironing board to ensure the cleaning product is entirely gone from the soleplate.

Auto shut off how to turn back on?

The automatic shut off is a protective device to let the iron cool down when not in use. Normally, if you pick the iron up and sit it down on the board or fabric, the iron will "sense" the motion and click back on to the heating cycle. To turn the iron off, just move the dial to the lowest position, or OFF and or unplug it from the outlet. If left unattended for a while, and when picking it back up to iron, if it does not come back on then you may need to increase the heat setting, move the dial a little, till you see the power light come back on. This is a safety item, and a good one, given the hectic lifestyles we have now, and having busy lives. If we forget to shut the iron off, it does it for itself after a period of non-use. No more trips to the store or wherever and remembering "I forgot to unplug/turn-off the iron I was using". Still, it's best to unplug and or turn it off when not in use. I prefer unplugging, so that it does not be a "vampire device" drawing even little amounts of current when not in use. And it's safest when unplugged and cool.

Switch light goes on when pressed but goes off if not pressed

Switch light goes on when pressed but goes off if... OR iron does not heat at all even pressing the button to turn it on continually.
Don't understand which one question you are asking
But if there is no heat at all after switching it on, it needs to go to iron heaven but be sure to cut the plug of the end, Saftey reasons at the dump. BUT if lights are coming on the iron is working. the large dial on the water filler is temperature control. Turn this around to cotton or linen.
The light will come on and off while in use, it allows you to know that the iron has cooled and is going back to your select temperature( on the large dial)

Make sure that you use water in the iron as it will aid your ironing and make it quicker. Make sure that the iron temperature dial on the water filler is at the correct temperature for the item that you are ironing.
Hope this helps

Iron does not turn on

Check the cord with an ohm/volt meter. Check that the outlet has power by plugging in a working lamp. Check the on off dial or switch to see if it is loose or broken.

The iron will not turn on or light up. It is not the cord.

There should be screws in the back where the cord is inserted, remove these screws. Now you should see the cord, check to make sure the wires are connected, both the ground and hot wire. If all wires are ok, then check the on/safety shutoff switch for damage with a voltmeter.

My singer magic press 4 iron comes on but the plate will not heat up. I turn it on one day and it just would not heat up.

Not sure how tech savvy you are, but the service manual can be downloaded at http://www.parts.singerco.com/CPpartCharts/Presses/MP4.pdf
UNPLUG THE IRON. Figure 7 shows the wiring. Note that the lamp inside the switch is shown incorrectly. It should be on the other side of the switch. Also the 2 wires running down to the fuse are the red wires. The red wires are interchangeable. Use a continuity tester between wire 2 and wire 3 to test the thermostat. Should be open when dial is turned to the left. Closed when dial turned to the right. Also check continuity on the heaters. If everything looks good but it still doesn't work, replace the circuit board.

We fixed ours today. Take the iron plate off (bottom of the iron shaped like a triangle). You are looking for a thermal fuse (or thermal-protector fuse) pictured here for less than $2 at Radio Shack(http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102788&CAWELAID=107599331). You will need needlenose pliers to gently remove the old fuse and the wire cutters to trim the long wires to the same length as the old fuse (less than 1/2"). Also, since the old fuse was 240 C and we only could find a 228 C replacement - we cannot use the iron at the same high temp. So we limited the dial by marking out a portion of the dial. The iron stopped working after I kept the iron on high for an extended period of time. My electrician husband explained that I over heated the iron - breaking the fuse. Not time I'll turn the iron off or down when I'm not using it. This was so easy, I'm going to check out our other broken irons.

I bought a Durabrand TSK-7538S Steam Iron for $12 at Wal-Mart. It's fine but the "instructions" are poor. I can't figure out how to set the temperature. I mean, I know you turn the dial, but...

okay. thats not a bad question, i got the same iron, and i know what your're talking about. the "line" you're talking about is not a line at all, it's actually a tiny plastic indicater at the bottom of the dial. it's blue too, so you cant see it, so feel on it with your finger. =) email me if i helped. solacewishes@yahoo.com
