Powers On But Freezes on Start-up page

Two year old L25. Has been problem free until now. Currently, the computer just freezes after powered on(screen shows the "satellite" page) and does not allow anything else to be done. I have tried the restore CD and it is not being accepted by the computer. Any suggestions on getting past this frozen page?

Re: Powers On But Freezes on Start-up page

I'm having the exact same problem with the L25 Satellite.

The BIOS can be accessed.

When you load from Regular Windows disc or Restore CD, both ways it does not load. It shows the XP loading screen and then after that it's blank. No error messages, nothing on the display, no beeps, NOTHING.

I replaced RAM, CPU, Hard Drive, everything except the motherboard. Therefore, I'm lead to believe it's the motherboard. But still, I'm not exactly sure.

I didn't try a BIOS update though. I don't know if that helps, but I'll try.

If the hard drive is corruptted, you will still be able to access BIOS and boot you computer from restore CD. I believe that you have a dead BIOS CMOS.

Re: Powers On But Freezes on Start-up page

If this is one of those special Toshiba's with the bios/cmos on the hard drive you're in a world of pain. Can you access the bios at all? Can you see the hard drive or what can you see if you can get in the bios? I could be wrong- but if you can't get into the bios you may have a corrupt hard drive- and need another one- or the motherboard could be bad, or the ram might be bad too.
Try starting with the getting into the bios- and see what you can find out...

My VAIO laptop freezes after a few minutes and I have to remove the battery and reboot. Help! Thanks

This seems to be a common problem with laptops over a couple of years old. Dust gets trapped in the copper fins and the fan of the CPU heatsink and reduces the efficiency of the cooling, which results in regular power off's by the laptop as it gets over it's upper temperature setting. The fix is relatively easy, just remove the heatsink unit, blow it clean with compressed air, clean the old CPU heatsink paste off with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and spray a thin film of heatsink paste on the CPU.

Screen freezes on start up power off, power on freezes again .whats the problem ?

Hi ,

This happens when a startup program is is corrupt or is not responding. It can also be that a hardware is gone corrupt that is making the computer freeze. To correct the problem please follow the trobleshooting steps listed below.

Disconnet any external devices that you have added after you bought the notebook like usb devices ,printer etc. Then turn the computer on and see if the computer freezes or not .If it does not freeze then it means that there is an external device that is causing the problem and to find it out you need to connect one device at a time and check .

U can also do this .Turn the computer off completely and then when you turn the computer on keep on tapping the F8 key till it loads the advance boot menu page then select safe mode just plain safe mode and hit the enter key .Wait till it loads the the log on screen then select administrator. It will take you to the desktop and check if the computer freezes or not .If it doesn't then it means that there is a program that is causing the computer to freeze.Go to start?run ?type in msconfig?enter?click on the startup tab ?click on disable all?apply ?select the services tab?click on disable all ?apply ?click on ok or close to exit from the page and then select restart when it prompts you to .When it is booting up to the normal mode check if the computer freezes. Then you will have to find the program that is causing the computer to freeze. To do this first enable all the startup program and then check if it doesnt then its a program under services that is corrupt .S o select one or more program restart and check so this way you will have to isolate the program and then just leave that program unchecked.
Hope this post helps you ...all the best
you can revert if this does not work....

Need to test and isolate where it exactly freezes? After dell logo, after windows logo or while inside windows? Now, if it only freezes inside windows try to turn off your windows updates and antivirus first and check if still freezes, if yes then try booting in safe mode, reboot system then keep tapping on f8 once dell logo appears. Check if laptop keeps freezing in safe mode. Please let me know.

Compaq V5005us is weird. Powers on with black screen and freezes

It sounds like your Video card and/or motherboard are starting to give out or your LCD is giving way. Try plugging the laptop into an external screen and see if it still acts strangely or even displays on the external monitor.

Freezes duing start up

This could be many things...
first of all, are you able to boot into safe mode? do that by tapping the F8 key repeatedly while booting, until you get a screen that gives you options on which way you want to boot windows. Select Safe mode and see if you can.
Also, what type of computer do you have?, and, have you done any recent program installations or removals?
