Question about Toshiba Satellite L25-S119 Notebook

Powers On But Freezes on Start-up page

Two year old L25. Has been problem free until now. Currently, the computer just freezes after powered on(screen shows the "satellite" page) and does not allow anything else to be done. I have tried the restore CD and it is not being accepted by the computer. Any suggestions on getting past this frozen page?

I have a very similar problem. Powers up and goes to the Toshiba splash screen. Disk light is always on...but does nothing. Hitting F2 says entering setup...but it never goes there. F12 is unresponsive ...does nothing. CD/DVD drive does not work. Have tried new hard drive with same results.

No physical damage and worked fine in the morning.

How can I find out if bios is stored on hard drive?

I'm having the exact same problem with the L25 Satellite.

The BIOS can be accessed.

When you load from Regular Windows disc or Restore CD, both ways it does not load. It shows the XP loading screen and then after that it's blank. No error messages, nothing on the display, no beeps, NOTHING.

I replaced RAM, CPU, Hard Drive, everything except the motherboard. Therefore, I'm lead to believe it's the motherboard. But still, I'm not exactly sure.

I didn't try a BIOS update though. I don't know if that helps, but I'll try.

If the hard drive is corruptted, you will still be able to access BIOS and boot you computer from restore CD. I believe that you have a dead BIOS CMOS.

If this is one of those special Toshiba's with the bios/cmos on the hard drive you're in a world of pain. Can you access the bios at all? Can you see the hard drive or what can you see if you can get in the bios? I could be wrong- but if you can't get into the bios you may have a corrupt hard drive- and need another one- or the motherboard could be bad, or the ram might be bad too.
Try starting with the getting into the bios- and see what you can find out...

hard drives are cheap - usually less than a dollar a gigabyte. it might be worth it ot get a 40 gig or less drive and see if it will work- but if the cd rom restore disk will not boot the syetem you might be wasting your time. what if any error message are you getting when trying the restore cd?

either f10 or f12 will usually let you select the boot option. force it to use the cd rom as the boot device. if it won't then you are probably looking at at least taking it to a repair shop to let the mdiagnose what's wrong.

Best Buy- aw man! Do you really think a person getting paid ~$10.00 an hour really knows what they are doing? Yeah. Exactly. Retailers usually recommend buying a new laptop- just because they really have no Idea how to fix anything. I have worked support for THIER support- and let me tell you this: the kids working these jobs are usually clueless- and only know the basics of computer support. Any idiot can work on computers- I see a lot of them offering advice. Unless they are at LEAST A+ certified- and have at LEAST a few years experience- I would not trust any of them.

As for your toshiba- ~$50.00 for a hard drive and ~100 to put it in there and reload the system on it. If someone local can do it- GREAT! if they charge more than that- it's gouging and a rip off. Your resale on this laptop as is on e-bay is probably a MAX of $200 unless someone has one that needs a specific part- they might pay more and it depends on your feedback rating too.

Unless you know a good computer shop with someone that REALLY knows what they are doing and is not gouging you on the price- you're better off looking for another one with a better warranty- new laptops are very cheap these days.

Garmin Nuvi 1350 - will not power on unless I hold power button down for the 10 second reset. At this point, the device powers on until it reaches the "loading maps" point and then shuts down.

Compaq V5005us is weird. Powers on with black screen and freezes

It sounds like your Video card and/or motherboard are starting to give out or your LCD is giving way. Try plugging the laptop into an external screen and see if it still acts strangely or even displays on the external monitor.
