You have to push the reset button, and then leave the username blank, and use admin for the password

How do i connect my wireless internet

Connect your wireless modem into the telephone or ADSL capable line from your phone company or internet service provider (ISP.) Remember to place an line filter between any hard-wired phone and also the modem. (The modem will have at least one in the box, use it for the modem.) Open the modem box and read all the instructions carefully. Connect your PC with a CAT5 (RJ45) cable in the modem box to the modem... yes, you need to use a cable to set it up. This is bit wider than the normal telephone jack and there is a place for it on your PC called an "Ethernet" plug. The modem should have a CD ROM that will help you set it up. Before you begin, make up a unique, easy-to-remember name for your network, also think of a password that you want to use to secure your wireless connection. Call your ISP and tell them what the brand and model of your wireless modem is and they will talk you through the set-up at no cost. The key thing to have handy is the "Default gateway URL" This is sequence of numbers and periods between them that is absolutely essential to set up your wireless modem. If you don't have it, don't worry... there is a command prompt (CMD) that your ISP will instruct you to use to retrieve it after you have installed the modem's driver and are ready to set it up. Normally, the first 2 to 4 passwords required are to get access to set up the modem... using "admin" is just fine. (Passwords are most always asked in duplicate to reconfirm the password.) The important password is the one that allows access to your home or business wireless network. Remember to write down your username, unique password, and the network name for your network and the Default gateway URL so you can easily diagnose connection problems later. I keep this stuff in the modem box with the cable, instructions, and CD. Good Luck

Forgot pasword router

did you change the password ?

Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

or

Log in to the router.

Routers typically have the IP address "192.168.0.1" or "192.168.1.1" for their configurations.

When connecting to the proper router IP address, a password box appears. The default login for Linksys routers is no username and "admin" for the password.

The default login for most other routers, including D-Link, Netgear and Belkin, is "admin" for the username and "password" for the password.

View or change the wireless password.

This is either a WEP key or a WPA/WPA2 password.

Some routers allow the direct viewing of the password, while others mask the password.

If the password is masked, the only option is to change the password to something else.

Connect to the wireless network with either the revealed or changed password.

Recover the System Password

Hold in the reset button on the router for 10 seconds and disconnect the power.

Continue to hold the reset button for 15 seconds while reconnecting the power.

Release the reset button and wait 60 seconds.

The router has now been reset to factory default settings.

Log in to the router as in the previous section.

Hope this helps

How do i set up secured network?

set-secured-wireless-network-netgear-800x800.jpg Set up a Secured Wireless Network on Netgear Photo is inappropriate for this article Submit

A wireless network is comprised of a wireless router, a computer (or other wireless-enabled devices), a high-speed modem, and a subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Netgear is a popular manufacturer of wireless networking hardware that allows users to set up a secured wireless network. In order to prevent unauthorized users from logging onto your wireless network to gain access the Internet, and in order to protect the data you transmit and receive online, you should change your wireless router's security settings to create a secured wireless network.

1 Install the router. To install a Netgear wireless router, use an Ethernet cable to connect the router to the cable/DSL modem and use another Ethernet cable to connect the router to your computer. Make sure all of these devices are powered off as you connect them. Once connected, turn on the cable/DSL modem, the router, then the computer, in that order. Allow at least two minutes to pass after turning on each device to give the devices time to recognize one another

2 Log in to the router. Open a web browser and type in the router's address to load the router's settings page. The router's address can be found in the user guide or setup CD that came with your router, or you can download a user guide from Netgear's technical support page (see Resources). Most Netgear routers use one of the following addresses: http://192.168.1.1; http://www.routerlogin.net; or http://www.routerlogin.com. Press "Enter" or click "Go" in your web browser after you have entered the address.

3 Enter the router's username and password. A prompt will appear on the screen when you enter your router's address, requiring you to enter a username and password before you can access the router's settings page. The default username for Netgear routers is "username" and the password is "password." Because the textboxes are case-sensitive, you must enter both of these using all lowercase letters. Press "Enter" to log in to the router and begin changing its security settings.

4 Open the security settings menu. The router's home page has multiple links for changing settings. Find and click the "Security Settings" link to change the router's security settings.

5 Change the SSID, choose an encryption setting and create a password. The default name (or "SSID") of your wireless network will be "NETGEAR." Enter a new, memorable name for your wireless network to help detract would-be hackers from trying to access your router, as most novice computer users with unsecure networks do not know how to change the default network name or institute any other security features. Newer Netgear routers offer WPA or WPA-PSK encryption to secure your network, both of which provide high levels of security. Select either of these. encryption types and create a unique password. This will require all users to enter the password before they can log in to your wireless network. It is important that you create a complex password that has several characters, including numbers. Once you have created a password, click "Confirm Password" to save it. To exit the security settings menu and log off of the router, click "Save" or "Apply" to save the changes you made, then click "Logout" to exit the route

I have a motorola surfboard sb5101 cable modem and have lost the network key. I have a new laptop and 3 new HTC HD phones and I can't log on to my home network. How do I re-assign a password.

You shouldn't need a key for the modem. However, if you are missing the network key for a wireless modem, there is a reset on the back of the device. (Small hole, usually requires a paperclip). Hold that for 30 seconds or so. It will reset to factory specs - Simply rebuild it from there following the installation CD or directions from the manufacturer's site.

802.11g/2.4ghz I have lost the password and all other info for this modem and I want to add another computer to the system.( that will make 3 comp. using this modem) D. Link wants $40.00 for the info.Can...

What can I do if I forgot my password?
If you forgot your password, you must reset your router. Unfortunately this process will change all your settings back to the factory defaults.
To reset the router, locate the reset button (hole) on the rear panel of the unit. With the router powered on, use a paperclip to hold the button down for 10 seconds. Release the button and the router will go through its reboot process. Wait about 30 seconds to access the router. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1. When logging in, the username is admin and leave the password box empty.

Install 2wire 1701hg without installation CD

1. pull up browser(ie internet explorer)
2. type 192.168.1.254/setup or http://homeportal/setup in the address field. (click on i forgot my password if you forget it. then if you can't figure out the pw with the hint provided then go click on " i still forgot my password". you can then reset the system password)
3. setup your 2wire 1701 page, double check if key codes are there. it should be 522P-22P4-6262-22AT-F2NV
4. In time zone page, just choose the one then click next.
5. setup connection info page, just make sure the username is your primary email address with your ISP and also the correct password. fill out the username and password and confirm password fields ONLY then click next. And you're DONE!

you just have to wait till it successfully establish a connection.
if you're still having problem after doing that maybe twice or more then i suggest giving your ISP a call. they can also send you the 2wire cd if your ISP supports 2wire modem. AT&T does.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
