Question about Norelco Health & Beauty

My 985RX Norelco shaver will charge up to 50 minutes, but will stop running about at 42 minutes, which means I only get about two or three shaves per charge.

Charge your shaver  for 4hours again it will solve your problem

I just ordered new batteries for my Norelco 985RX and am pretty confident I will have no trouble soldering them into place. However, I was wondering if there are any special instructions to make certain...


After correctly installing our batteries and reassembling the shaver, it will not turn on until it has been plugged in. You should then charge the batteries for 4 hours. Then use the shaver until it completely runs out of power and stops. You can then use the shaver as normal. It may take 2-3 charge cycles to maximize the battery 'chargeability'

After using the shave a digital red symbol of the head shows up at the bottom of the shaver. What does this mean? Thanks.


Digital red symbol of the head shows up. It's menas that you should change new replacement heads, that Norelco Arcitec electric shaver replacement heads is Norelco RQ10 shaving heads.

Red light at bottom flashes even when razor ids fully charged. What can causrethis?


When the battery is almost empty (when there are only 5 or fewer shaving minutes left), the battery symbol lights up red.

Make sure that the battery does not have a memory effect. What I suggest is taking the shaving head unit off and running the shaver till empty, then recharging. Check if the red light is still flashing.

There's also a head indicator at the bottom of some shavers.

To remind you to replace the shaving unit, the shaving unit symbol flashes (all types) and you hear a beep when you switch off the shaver (RQ1090 only). This happens at the end of 7 successive shaves to remind you to replace the shaving unit.

Without knowing what model you have it's difficult to diagnose further.

Norelco 985rx Overheats upon charging..


You should always use the same type batteries that your shaver was designed to be used with. Your shaver was designed for use with NiCd batteries. If you have use NiMH batteries this may be causing the problem you described.
However, I would say that it is more likely that you have some sloppy solder that is bridging something that is not supposed to touch. You should check the battery solder joints on the circuit board and clean up any sloppy solder work that may be there.

What is the red blinking light showing the head mean?

I get three shaves per charge


I have a couple of thoughts...

First, the amount of shaves you get is directly relevamt to the amount of time it takes you to shave. Most shavers today have a run time of about 30 minutes while there are some that are longer. If your shaver has a 30 minute run time and it takes you 5 minutes to shave, you should get about 6 shaves on a charge. If it takes you about 10 minutes to shaver, 3 shaves is all you can expect on a charge. You get the idea.

If your shaver does not hold a charge for at least 30 minutes, the batteries may be going bad. Although you mention that you just got this shaver, it was manufactured some time ago. Model R-450s has been discontinued for about two years. The batteries on lower end models like this one often dont last as many years are the older models did.
