Question about Canon PIXMA MP510 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Ink Level I recently changed all 4 ink tanks(the exsisting tanks were nearly empty) The new tanks needed the chips from the existing tanks - I changed the chips over. the machine will print but the ink level readout box cannot show the levels ie nearly full. Canon help says that chips will only work with Canon products ie not any cheaper versions. What could be the solution to obtaining an accurate level read out. Brian

Re: Ink Level

The obvious solution is to buy Canon ink cartridges. If you don't care about an accurate readout, buy cheaper cartridges and swap the chips. I'd suggest keeping spares on hand and change them when one color stops printing.

Hi Vinay kumar kuchipudi , I tried using refillable cartridges and my CYAN is always flashing . rest of the cartridges is reconised. Can you please advice me what to change. I tried the second new ref

Sorry for the delay.,
As you know each cartridge having memory chip, the chip keeps the estimated level of ink inside as per the out put print volume . But there is no contact or any internal circuit to link up with the chip.. Once its empty, even refilling the ink inside chip wont recognizes the ink level, results printer detects that cartridge running out of ink & printer warning appears on panel. You need to replace the chip while refilling the ink. Now a days universal re-settable chips are available in the market, get the set of chips replace with existing chips..

Change cartridges

At the head carriage, there as contacts are connected to the ink tank chip when the ink tank installed. At the rear there is a small pcb contact is commonly called the CSIC chip reader. When there is a condition that does Recognized ink tank chip, the first possibility is the ink level reaches the zero point on the chip. For some ARC chips (commonly used in the system CISS), ink level it can be reset to 100% again by pressing the reset button on the chip. If using original chip, make sure first that the contacts on the chip clean of dust and rust. If the brand new original ink tank is installed , still not readable, then chances are the damage / dirty CSIC chip. Extra effort required for the carriage and check this CSIC.

Epson CX9400Fax reports "Cannot recognize ink cartridges."

Confirm you are using the correct cartridge:
Ink color Part number Black 69 Black (High Capacity) 68 Cyan 69 Magenta 69 Yellow 69

If the cartridge is the correct one check the contacts on the cartridge and its holder for contamination or damage.

Change all Ink cartridges. Printer do not work now. It was working ok before I change ink cartridge.

Are these genuine Epson Cartridges? If not, Please try Genuine Cartridges for best results. If they ARE genuine ... take them back to the place you bought them and complain. If you already did that ... please ask your question again and mention these important facts.

After cleaning print heads, which were causing poor print quality,i get an error message cartridges cannot be recognized. i am using after market cartridges, but have used them before with no issues....

Head cleaning procedure consumes a lot of ink. Ink level counter run too. So, after some head cleaning ink level counter reach zero level (ink out/empty level). Ink tank can not use again even there are ink at tank actually, because chip reach zero level. Reset chip using hardware resetter and you can refill ink tank.

Bad printing after changing 2 inks also clicking noise not before

shouldn't be the ink. I assume you have an epson as in the picture. my ink refill kit mentions that "epson intellidge chipped cartridges" require an "ink level resetter" to complete the kit. So if you have these cartridges even once refilled the chip tells the printer the cartridge is still empty so you'll need to reset the chip with the ink level resetter.

Canon MP520 cartridge swap and ink refill

Canon MP520 multifunctional device - deactivation of the ink level counter
1. You can do it only when the printer counter releases the warning message - "the ink cartridge is nearly empty" = yellow warning mark

2. You have to do this procedure four times - for every cartridge one times
3. At the screen you will see three warning messages
- for the first one press "OK"
- for the second and third one press "Yes"
4. The fourth message tells you that you can do the ink level counter deactivation by pressing the "Stop/Reset" button (7) for more than 5 seconds. Do it.

Later you can see another type of warning message at the screen:

In this case you can not follow the previous procedure - there will not be any other warning messages.
Just follow the message on the screen and press the "OK" button (5) and you can print.
Unfortunately - I do not know for how long time it works.

You have to manualy check the ink level and refill (change) the cartridge before it is completely empty! You might brake your warranty!
When you insert the new original ink cartridge, the counter will work properly again.

U150 is a 'faulty electronic chip on the tank' error. If you installed a new Canon OEM tank then probably the chip on the new tank is bad.. Take that tank back for a replacement.. If you installed a Clone(non-OEM) tank, then that one will only work if you retrieve a chip from a known good OEM tank and glue it on to it. Clone(non-OEM) tanks all come without chips.
