Honda mower with GXV140 engine

Hi there

I have the same problem, i was recently given a Honda HR1950 QX mower, the mower has only been used about three times in its life and has sat around a dusty warehouse for the past 6years, the fuel has been changed recently but it just wont fire up, i have replaced the spark plug taken the carb apart which there was some rust in the bottom of the carb bowl, fuel is getting into the carb but doesnt seem to be getting into the cylinder head, do you think there is a blockage somewhere in the carb? i have ordered a new replacement carb today so fingers crossed this will solve the problem. Your thoughts on this will be much appreciated.

A new carburetor will definately help. The old carburetor may have some ports still clogged. I would also spray some penetrating oil in the spark plug hole to help loosen up the rings on the piston. It may smoke alittle when you fist start it up. Plus try some "engine start" spray, to see if the engine will crank.

Undoubtedly clogged ports in the old carb. Too bad you already ordered a replacement. You could easily clean the old one out and be back in business. Can of spray cleaner and some fine wires are all you would need.

How do I ge ta repair manual for Honda HRU19 mower? The mower has no power when hot and will not start. If I had my choice again ...wouldn't purchase mower with automatic choke. Thanks

Your wanting the engine repair manual instead of one for the whole mower. The owners indicates that it has a GCV160A0.

You can download a shop manual from the following

but if your wanting a full service manual then you need to order from Honda. The site can direct you to one online sites.

Honda HRM215 lawnmower won't start. I am looking

Check for spark. Pull the plug and look at it. Make sure it isnt oil or fuel fouled.

Check the airpath and make sure the filter isnt blocked.

Check the fuel. Make sure you have clean gas in the float bowl. You can drain the carb without taking it off the mower. The bottom of the bowl should have a drain bolt in it. Remove the bolt completely and fuel free flow for a 30 seconds to make sure you chase off any water or dirt that may be in the bowl.

You may want to check compression. This mower is 19 years old and may be losing compression to the point where it wont draw enough fuel to run. Look for at least 100-110 PSI. Anything less you should consider adjusting the valve clearances to see if that helps. If not you probably need a new mower. Since repairs like this are very expensive.

Oh..and for specs and guidance: try here!

Good luck and be careful!

GXV140 Carburetor removal

The carb just slides off of the posts. The gaskets are holding it on and may tear when you pull it off. The linkages must be disconnected to get it off as well. There are two bolts on the throttle plate that can be removed so the plate can move to make disconnecting the linkages easier. Some people remove the posts by threading two nuts on and tightening them against each other so that the inner one can be turned to unscrew the post. That didn't work for me as both nuts still turned together.

Smoke from engine of lawnmower

usually large clouds of smoke are from having too much oil in the crankcase, or tipping the mower so that oil runs into the cylinder. Check the level of oil, and make sure it's not overfilled.

Honda gxv140 cam timing.

There are two marks on the bottem of the cam gear that need to be flush with the top edge of the head (mating surffice of valve cover). And the key way on the crank needs to be turned up inline with the cam shaft.
