Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer, Roper REX5634KQ0 will only heat in the Timed Dry (low heat) and No Heat mode. In the Auto Sense Dry the dryer will not operate. In the Timed Dry (High Heat), the dryer will run, but not at high heat and the dryer will cut off in mid cycle.

Roper model red4640yq1 heats in auto mode but not on timed dry

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle. Which are reflected by the thermostats.

Roper elecrtic dryer will only turn on when the selector is on auto dry less heat or on timed dry low heat and never has any heat, any help

Check your venting and lint basket. Check blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)

Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective or has a short if its grounding out? Which in turns causes blown fuses or thermostats or overheating.

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,

Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.

Barrel isn't turning.

I believe you will find the belt is broken.
There is a motor which is supposed to turn a belt, which in turn drives the drum.
If you wish to repair ir yourself, a letter to "Fixya" could cause someone to walk you through the steps.
Be blessed.

No heat on sensor dry mode but did have heat on timed dry. then lost heat to timed dry.

This sounds like the dryer coils are failing. They tend to start failing as they heat up then just totally fail. Very inexpensive and easy to replace. It could also be several other things but unlikely thermal fuse, thermal cut out, hi limit thermostat, heat sensor,or ignitor. All of these parts are inexpensive and easy to test and replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting of these components. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.

I have a roper electric dryer model # rex3514pqu. The dryer doesn't heat at all and the timer will not move, it stays where I set it. What could cause this problem?

If you have a TIMED cycle, the timer should advance heat or not. In the AUTO dry cycle the timer will not advance without heat. Unplug the dryer. Remove the rear panel of the dryer and check the heat element, relays and thermostats with a volt meter set for ohms. No reading indicates a bad part. Remember to remove at least one wire from each component before testing.

Dryer Timer dial will not move but dryer works

Will the dryer move forward in timed dry? if it does not then you need a new timer. If if will advance in timed dry but does not advance in auto mode then the high limit needs to be replaced on the heater.

DRYER RACK DOES NOT DRY CLOTHES

try timed dry cycle instead of the auto-sensing setting. In your drum if you have auto dry such as less dry normal dry and more dry, There is a sensor sometimes in the drum and sometimes in the exhaust right after the blower. If in the drum then your clothes brush by this and if moisture is sensed then it keeps on drying. With your rack the clothes can't touch the sensor so it tells your dial to turn and that items are dry which in fact are not. Try this and see how it does.
