Why is my alternator over charging

Probably the voltage regulator is bad. Since the regulator is part of the alternator, it's best to have the alternator replaced. Unfortunately, replacing an alternator on these cars is not a simple job. Look for other posts on this website about replacing the alternator: if you're not comfortable with doing it for yourself, take it to a qualified shop.

I have an issue with a 98 ford contour v6. all the lights pulse when the alternator is charging above idle. alt has been replaced.checked the fuse at rear of engine.any ideas about this problem.

This is usually caused by a failing regulator within the alternator, however, it would be a good idea to also check all engine to chassis grounding straps. Thank you.
