Re: mvx1i zoom does not operate at all

I had the same on mine and here is the explanation because fixing it is not easy to impossible.

I had it fixed on mine just to see it getting worse after that.

Reason: The Zoom Slider puts a resistor to some printed curcuit board just beneath it and if that gets oxidised due to age it stops working. Only the remote workes then.

Workaround (recommended): Use the remote.

Fixing it is nearlky impossible as the printed circuit board is on the other side of the camera from where you start opening it and you have to comletely dissasemble it. I did and tried fixing it by cleaning the circuit boad, but it somehow changed the restance value and then it was stuck in full zoom all the time. Then had to re-open again and sever the connection completely, thus having the camera stuck in full view at least. but because of this strange resistor concept of the design, having the connection severed does not disable the zoom but rather simulates constant zooming out. hence my remote is now not longer working.

Hence: keep it simple and use the remote and be happy.

Turn on the unit and goes to full zoom. Back it off manually, it will immediately return to full zoom. Unit was bought new about 6 years ago.

My camera did the turned out to be a sticking zoom switch. With the camera turned OFF... move the zoom button ON TOP ( above the view finder) of the camera to the left and right about 20 or 30 times... then turn the camera on and try it.... very simple... but it worked for me :o)

Zoom Buttons stopped working,manual ok

Your problem is most likely one of three things: the zoom rocker (or wires connecting it to the main control) have gone bad, the zoom motor has failed, or you have bad capacitors in the camera which are causing the controls to not operate as they should. In any case, the camera will probably need servicing to restore it to complete function.

Zoom not working E61:10

Zoom motor in camera lens mechanism is stuck due to **** etc. You need to open camera, take out camera lens section and check zoom motor.

Do the above if you know basic electronics and have little experience of camera repair.
If don't, contact Sony Service to fix the camera.

Wont zoom out or focus

An E:61:10 error means Zoom operations fault Inspect the lens block zoom reset sensor.
You can try to do a manual reset on your camera. If that doen't work it will probably have to be sent in for service.

hmmm, the only thing i can think of is to try the easy Q mode and see if it works ok , when it is in easy Q mode it puts the video camera at a default setting and you cant change any of the menu options until you take it out of easy Q.
