Question about Kenmore Refrigerators
I'd start by making sure the ice maker is not simply "shut off". no offense, it is a common occurrence. the unit can be shut off several ways depending on the model you have. some ice makers have a switch right on the ice maker module/head. some have a switch at the side wall of the freezer, if it has an ice bucket on the door, and most if not all ice makers have a shut off arm to automatically shut it down when it's harvested a full bucket of ice, which can accidentally be pushed up into the off position by simply reaching in to grab ice or something other. if all that has been ruled out, ok.
next, start by pulling the unit away from the wall, or whatever the case may be in your environment, as long as you have access to the rear of the unit. (be careful of the water supply line) I should add just because you are getting water from the dispenser on the door does not necessarily mean anything about the ice maker.
**FIRST; before going any further, unplug the unit from the wall**.
now that the unit has no power. shut off the water to the unit. examine the water lines traveling along the back of the fridge so you're familiar with the routing of the lines.(draw a picture/take a photo if you think it's helpful) if this is a bottom mount, you'll see the water line for the ice maker at the lower right hand corner, if it's a top mount, it will be located towards the top right corner, (provided you're facing the back). identify where the line enters what they call the "injector" or "supply tube". you'll notice the line being held in place by a small clamp of some kind. remove this clamp. once the clamp is removed, gently pull the plastic line out of the tube. if you've got the line out of the tube, tape it to the back of the fridge out of you're way, careful not to kink it or lay it on the floor, it could be damaged or water may leak onto the floor. now you have to pull that injector tube out of the back wall. it may be pressed in there (should be) fairly snug, so you'll have to apply steady force while twisting it back and forth, it should pull out and is likely several inches long. once you have that out, is it iced up ? you'll likely have to replace the inlet valve for the ice water supply. some units have a water/ice valve all together with 2 valves on it, some have separate valves for water and ice. you'll need to determine which one by looking or even better, cross reference with the model and serial numbers at an on-line parts supplier or local parts depot.
