I have a failed 2wire 1000HW as well.
The problem is internal to the modem itself. The power brick puts out a solid and stable 6.1216V DC, until plugged into the modem.
It seems the power brick must have short circuit protection, because it shuts off immediately (good thing, too!) when plugged in.
Opened up the modem, didn't find any evidence of blown caps or other problems. The input resistance does seem to be a problem, which starts in the mega-ohm range and drops and drops and drops.... who know what it does when connected to power. I think input resistance is supposed to be super high and stable.
Looks like the modem is shot, and will let you know if I figure out what's wrong. Too bad I cut the power brick connector to test it - it works great! I guess this will be an easy fix. -   runxctry

-   Modem quit working no lights on, power is available but modem will not power up. Took basic steps to power, disconnected then reconnected but nothing.-   gawnault
Power light on what? If the modem, then you need to make sure the wall outlet has power first.. then work your way towards the modem and ensure that power is actually being delivered to the device..
