Mitsubishi CS-40FX1 won't power back on

The tv was working fine but I could not turn it off with the remote control or the panel on the front. I tried programming several other remotes and none would turn it off so I unplugged it and took it to my local repair shop. The guy there said he thought that the microprocessor was bad and that he could not find the replacement part for it. I worry because I had thought it something simple because the TV was working perfectly and now he tells me I just have to toss it away. This does give me the ammunition I need for my wife to go and get a Plasma but I just hate to scrap such a great TV. 40" tube is beautiful picture. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mitsubishi CS-40FX1 won't power back on

I have a similar problem. I have a CS40fx1, when I turn on the set there is no picture, just sound, then the tv just turns off. I can turn it back on but its goes off after 10 seconds or less. Any help on what my problem is on this set?

Mitsubishi CS-31205 TV Never had a remote for this great TV, but, accidentally pushed a button on my Comcast Cable remote and the TV is now in "Mute" mode. Not the Comcast box 'Mute' . Have...

You are supposed to be able to switch the Comcast Remote to TV mode and switch Mute on that remote to change back to standard volume. If that doesn't work try volume up on the TV. Otherwise if neither of those work then check for a replacement TV Remote.

I need to program my remote, it is a ge universal and my mitsubishi is model cs-40505

Three digit universal remote codes for Mitsubihsi are:-

004/ 005/ 009/ 022/ 046/ 081/ 089/ 132/ 133/ 180

Four digit universal remote code for Mitsubishi are:-

0005 0151 0051 0004 0009 0254 0022 0141 0180

Switch OFF and ON your TV with its front panel power switch, [NOT BY THE REMOTE HANSET] before trying each code

Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand.

Mitsubishi cs-26201 with "speaker off" - how to turn back on?

After a pulled plug got me Speaker off I was frustrated for weeks and found no solution online until I looked at a site offering original remotes and realizes I was using a VCR's remote for the TV. The Manual was long ago destroyed and is not available online that I can find, but I dug around for the oriignal remote and clicking the Audio button repeatedly brought up the Speaker: Off option and then it was just a press of Adjust to turn it back to On - problem solved.

I don't know if there is a way to do it without the remote, but the only controls on the TV are those on the front and in addition to steps people online suggested I think I must have tried every combination possible of pressing those in sequence or together as well as everything I could think of on the other Mitsubishi remote and the Universal remote I had been using.

Mitsubishi Model #CS-40FX1-1993

No the timer circuit would not prevent the Tv from coming on there is logically something else preventing that... The unit is equipped with a shutdown circuit that monitors voltages and prevent it powering up if a certain condition, like a short, is present. Could be the horizontal output transistor is shorted and the shutdown would prevent any B+ from that circuit to prevent a fire. Could be simply that the regulator is shorted and one of the voltages is missing. It's REALLY difficult when the only condition a tech has is that it's dead, or won't power up...
A Mits is a good Tv - really well built. But any good Tv from that era was meant to last about ten years. So when you factor this in your calculations it might just be time to get a new one..
My best suggestion is to take it to a local reputable technician for an estimate. That usually costs something but not an arm and a leg. Then based on what s/he says the problem is and what it will cost to fix it decide whether it's worth it or to replace it with a new Tv...
