Question about Sony KV-32S20 32" TV

1 Answer

Picture Blinking Hi, I have a Sony KV-32S20 (manufactured March 1996) that seems to have a problem with the picture tube. It has that problem where it blinks when you first turn on the TV and it continues for a little while. It's like it has to warm up and once it's warm the blinking stops. From what I have read it seems like it's a weak picture tube. Now, I was able to get my hands on a Sencore Beam Builder CR-70, which apparently can possibly "restore" the tube. If this is true, is it something I might possibly be able to do myself? If so, I would like to try and repair it and would appreciate some help in the process of how I might go about doing it.

I am having the exact same problem! My sony KV-32S20 was manufactured in January 1997. Would it be expensive to get it repaired or should I just buy a new television? If anyone can help, I would really aprreciate it.

9 times out of ten restoration is temporary,at best.....
Requires socket adapter for your tube or use universal
adapter...tricky hook-up = read instruction book for CR-70

BULB ? are you talking about the picture tube itself ? there is no bulb in your set that is replaceable like a DLP set if you need a picture tube your cost installed between 400.00 and 700.00 its a big job and i have not done one in years and years ,its just not worth the money . but if you really love the tv thats another story . i hope this helped . ...if this answer helped please rate a 4 or 5 stars , this high rateing will help keep me in the paid answer department

Blinking picture

TV Repairman came out today to look at my Sony KV-36XBR250 today with the exact same problem - he was able to adjust the settings through the service menu, but said it was a temporary fix only.

The picture tube is going and the Sony circuitry has a "video mute" that it uses when it senses the tube is not warmed up enough. The degraded state of the tube causes the blinking on and off as the signal from the tube wavers.

He ballpark estimated the tube replacement cost well above the price for replacing the set with a 37" LCD, so it's going to the dump...

Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider
