Here is a little something I put together just for you. I found a site that said some RCA TV's had the service codes on the inside of the back cover. So I pulled mine and there they were.

CTC203 Service Code Information

Parameter ------------- Parameter Name -------------- Value Range

P00 ------------------- Security Pass Number --------- V76
P01 ------------------- Error Detection Code 1 --------
P02 ------------------- Error Detection Code 2 --------
P03 ------------------- Error Detection Code 3 --------
P04 ------------------- Horiz. Phase (50 or 60Hz) ----- V00-15
P05 ------------------- EWDC (width) ---------------- V00-31
P06 ------------------- EW Amplitude (50 or 60Hz) ---- V00-15
P07 ------------------- EW Tilt (50 or 60Hz) ---------- V00-15
P08 ------------------- Top Corner Correction --------- V00-07
P09 ------------------- Bottom Corner Correction------ V00-07
P10 ------------------- Vertical D.C. (50 or 60Hz) ----- V00-63
P11 ------------------- Vertical Size (50 or 60Hz) ----- V00-127
P12 ------------------- Vertical Countdown Mode ------ V00-03
P13 ------------------- Red Bias ---------------------- V00-127
P14 ------------------- Green Bais -------------------- V00-127
P15 ------------------- Blue Bais ---------------------- V00-127
P16 ------------------- Red Drive --------------------- V00-63
P17 ------------------- Green Drive -------------------- V00-63
P18 ------------------- Blue Drive --------------------- V00-63
P19 ------------------- Gemstar OSD Horizontal Adjust -- V00-255
P20 ------------------- Gemstar Vertical Adjust --------- V00-255
P21 ------------------- Gemstar Horizontal PIP Adjust --- V00-255
P22 ------------------- Gemstar Vertical PIP Adjust ----- V00-255
P23 ------------------- Gemstar Window Vertical Size --- V00-13

Note: Stepping to 200 instead of 76 selectsthe Service Computer Mode. Must unplug unit to exit this mode.

Part No. 15358070

I also found this on the net.

Read the _ SERVICE MODE WARNING _ before proceeding.

To enter service mode, push and hold the [Menu] button on the set. While holding, push and release the [Power] button, then the [Vol +] button.

You will now have some information on the screen: "P0 V0"

To actually be able to change these values, you must push [Vol +] on the remote so the information reads V76. Then pushing on the Channel +/- will change the "P" value.

P1 - 3 are error codes. If there is a problem with the set that can be self-diagnosed, the "V" will report the code. These codes are available in the RCA repair manual.

P4 - 7 control the horizontal size, shift, vertical size and shift.

You may also find a summary leaflet for the service tech clipped somewhere inside the chassis. The procedures for getting into the service mode, as well as the service items of interest will be there.

If you're attempting to adjust color or geometry errors, you'll need the Video Essentials DVD, Laser Disc or some other source of test material.

Also can review this information:
- Intrepid Video & Electronics
- RCA/GE TV (CTC175-187+)

WARNING: Be aware that you modify the settings at your own risk. If you don't know what you're doing, you can really mess things up.

Good luck.

I have a Sylvania 6427 17

It sounds that the width of the picture to your TV is more than normal. There are two reasons for this fault. If the width adjustment data value in its service menu mode has been misaligned or the output DC voltage from the main power regulator is more than normal. You can determine which among the condition stated above is now effected to your TV
Just look at the picture. If the width and height of the picture is seem to be more than normal, make sure that the power regualtor section circuit has the fault. If the dimension of the picture is affected to its width only, [excess than normal] the data value with service mode should be checked.
Also note the position of the picture. If the picture position has moved so much than normal, ether towards left in this case, you have to adjust the picture position. Anyway, it will be best to contact any experienced service technician, since, service mode entry and data adjustment are skilled work.

Picture image does not look full when showing people

There is a service menu adjustment. I have seen several of these sets with bad components in the horizontal width control circuit. maybe your other set has a width problem. put both on the same channel. like cnn with the ticker on the bottom. what is the difference in size?
the width adj. procedure is: with the set off. use the remote, enter. MENU>5>VOL+>POWER . the set will come on in the service mode. then with the menu adj. buttons you can step threw the service menu to H.WIDTH adj. until full picture. also VERT. HEIGHT. when you are done adjusting make sure you press the mute button and watch the word WRITE flash from green to red or you won't save your adjustments.

Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

Picture displaced vertically, picture too high or low
This problem was cured by entering the service mode (menu then 4,7,2,5), then pressing the green fastext button to access geometry settings, selecting VP1 (vertical position) and adjusting as necessary
Very low width and bowed verticals,no ew correction. R626 o/c
C630 (390nF, 300v) faulty, located next to scan socket. This fault can also be caused by R629 (2R7 fusable) o/c. In my set C630 was dry-jointed but not faulty. Check generally for dry joints in the E/W and PSU areas. Note that R629 is a safety component

Color Problem after replaced Circut Board

When you replace the entire board in a Zenith TV, you must make the adjustments to align the new chassis with the old picture tube. You must adjust the CRT bias and drives as well as the horizontal and vertical parameters. On the older boards there were controls on the main and CRT boards but on the newer boards the adjustments are made with the remote control after entering the service mode. Tune in the shopping channel QVC, set the color and contrast to minimum and lower the brightness until the picture is just visible. Set the CRT bias settings for a pure black and white image, then increase the brightness and contrast to get a very bright picture and if necessary adjust the drive settings so that the bright picture is pure black and white. Return the video settings to normal and then adjust the vertical and horizontal settings so that the info boxes on QVC are centered top, left and bottom. If you are not sure that you can do that right then have a qualified tech handle it for you.
