Question about Cisco IP PHONE 7941 CH W/ LIC *2% DISCOUNT COD/WIRE Sys

1 Answer

My phone, (7941) only works in speakerphone mode. I can call someone via speakerphone and all is well. However if I pick up the handset it seems to go to mute. When I put the handset back down I can continue with my call. I'm sure it's just a setting but I dont know how to correct it.

Standby mode is when the phone is not on a call, you're not dialing one, and you're not doing anything with the menus. It's standing by, waiting for you to call or for someone to call you.

My phone is stuck on speakerphone. When I pick up...

There are two things to check that you can fix. First, try replacing the handset (curly) cord. A broken wire in the cord can make this happen. If that's not it, watch the hookswitch. That's the plunger that goes down when you put the handset in the cradle, and pops back up when you lift the handset. If it's stuck down, you will only get speaker and no sound in/out of the handset.

Doesn't answer calls or answers with speaker only

This is happening because your "Self-Cleaning" hookswitch is going bad. Since it's a carbon contact design, this will happen more and more frequently. I recommend sending your Cisco IP phones to IdacomUSA for repair and refurbishment. If you are the DIY type of person, we are also selling the pad and assembly for the Cisco hookswitch at $15 each (w/minimum order)

Misplaced one of the phone

I looked up that model and they are equipped with intercom service.
What good would an intercom function (I ask myself) without some way to ring another handset? It wouldn't make sense to have to holler for someone else to pick a handset ;-)

The phone's control layout is identical to ours (it is 2.4 gHz instead) so check the lower right-hand corner for a button perhaps marked Hold & below it 'Intercom' printed.
Using that function, you choose the station # and it will ring the remote (lost) handset until someone picks it up and presses Talk or speakerphone button. .

check for a button or sliding switch on the side, top,or bottom for the ringer on/off, [ some phones even have this switch on the back ] as for the speakerphone, you may have to push the speakerphone button, then put the handset back on the cradle for the speakerphone to work.
hope this helps.

Sounds like the mic is turned off. Try "FEATURE - 1". You may have to do it twice.

Handsets bypassed; need to restore (follow-up)

These phones have a horrible problem with the hook switch. If you can only get the phone to work in speakerphone mode, most likely the hook switch is shot. If nothing happens when you lift the handset a bad hookswitch is likely. If the hook switch works but the talk path in the handset does not work, there may be a cut jumper wire. The wire is cut when a headset adapter is installed and if that adapter was later removed it will effect the talk path for the handset. If you take the back of the phone off you can see the jumper (visible from the back of the circuit board through a notch next to the speaker) If you can use a soldering iron, a cut jumper can be repaired easily by bending the wire back so there is only a small gap and soldering it. -Ben
