Question about Hoover SteamVac F5914-900 SpinScrub Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

I have a hoover steamvac model # F5915-900 and the brushes are not turning when I turn the selector from off to low or high. I've checked to make sure the brushes are locked in place and they turn manually with no resistance. What else can i do?

(1) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
(2) Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism.
(3) Remove and clean the intake filter. One the base of the cleaner, behind the brushes, squeeze the two red abs together and pull the panel down to access the screen. Clean the hair/debris off the screen and reassemble.

Brushes won't turn

The brushes are powered by air suction from the motor. At the heart of this complicated system are roller bearings. When one fails the system fails. This is not one of the parts that Hoover thinks is needed on it's parts site so I've haven't found a way to repair this.

I have a Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge. I lent it to my mother who used it without the brush attached underneath. Now it doesn?t **** up water and the brushes don?t turn. Any idea what...

If you go to this URL:
http://www.vacpartswarehouse.com/Hoover-F7452-s/811.htm
you will an exploded view of your Hoover. By going down the pictures you will be able to see the internal parts of the unit and how the brushes are driven. You can check the parts in your machine to see if there is anything obvious about the drive system.
Please let me know how you make out, I am more than willing to discuss with you what you find and any possible solutions.

On hoover steam carpet cleaner, the brushes do not rotate on low or high settings.

Follow these steps if the Brushes Fail to Spin
•If the brushes on your Hoover carpet cleaner fail to spin, there may be a problem---some sort of blockage---with the suction or with the belt that turns the brushes.
Turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and inspect the brush area. Debris, strings, or pet hair may be tangled in the rollers, keeping them from turning. Use a pair of scissors to cut away any obstructions in this area. Flip the Hoover carpet cleaner back over, and turn it on to see if cleaning the rollers has solved the problem.
To check the belt, turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and remove the bottom plate screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Investigate the belt area to see if it is broken or has somehow slipped off. If it is broken, you can order a part from Hoover.com or from many of the other online parts stores.
When the belt arrives, simply slide it on in place of the broken belt, reattach the bottom plate and turn the Hoover carpet cleaner right-side up. Turn it on to test your solution.

Brushes donot turn when asked to shampoo

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine will have to be replaced. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below.

The brushes will not turn but the shampooer will come on

1) check the filter by the spin indicator (the plastic cover snaps off). Clean if necessary. See if this solves your problem.

2) take out the spin brush assembly (pull out, there may be tabs you need to push to get it all the way out. Clean out dirt and hair. This may be all you need to do, if not take step 3

3) turn on the machine with the brush assembly out. Do you see where the square shaft the drives the brushes goes in? If the socket does not spin, you probably have a seized up turbine assembly.

4) remove the top that covers the motor/turbine (you probably have to take out some screws) The turbine assembly is towards the front. Remove this (again, a couple of screws) and turn it over--there will be some gears. If you can get these gears turning smoothly together you should get the turbine working again. I used a pair of pliers to turn the metal shaft.

Put everything back together and try it out!

The scrub brushes dont spin anymore

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine gear will have to be replaced. You can access the turbine gear by removing the hood. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below. Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.
