HOW OFTEN??Should you defragment?Do I have a HDD or SSD hard drive??How do I find out??Does defraging SSD destroy your hard drive quicker?

If you use a proprietary defrag system like iobit.com, defragging everyday keeps the filing cabinet in good order cutting down on search time and saving wear on the hdd. If you download
Speed Up Slow Computer Keep PC and Internet Secure Freeware Download IObit
It will sort out your SSD or HDD for you automatically. We can only tell the type of drive from the computer information list that we cannot see because it is on your computer.

Defrag

Well, if you want the built in feature, (that is, if you have Vista or above...i haven't tested it on XP and below) you can
  1. Go to start menu.
  2. Type in search "defragmenter".
  3. Select disc defragmenter.
  4. You can Analyze, Schedule and Defragment from here.
  5. Or go to this tutorial for detailed instructions.

And then there's the 3rd party tools
  1. Free...
    Smart Defrag 2
  2. Paid...

I just fixed the memory module an I turn on the modem and it seems to b working fine now but the screen is blank no beeping or anything tried to diffrent screens but both are blank

This is probably a loose video car.

When you were fixing the RAM (probably remove it and then re-seat it), the video card may have come loose.

1. Turn off the PC and unplug it;
2. Touch something metallic to discharge static;
3. Unplug the monitor cable;
4. Open the case and carefully remove the video card.
5. Carefully but firmly replace the video card (most cards will snap when they fit back into place -- follow your video card manufacturer's instructions -- get these from the manufacturer's website.)
6. Plug everything back in and restart the PC.

You should get a good third party defrag program to keep your PC running at its best.

Fragmentation is basically broken-up pieces of files and free space randomly scattered all over your disk. The disk has to work a lot harder to save files in pieces and then to find them again and this really slows your computer down. It also wears out your disk, as the more the disk is used, the faster it wears out.

Basic defragmenting finds all the pieces of a file and puts them together, saving time.

Windows has a built-in defrag tool but it is very slow and you cannot use the PC while it is running (some users complain that it did not completely defrag their disks despite running all night).

Here is a Top 10 Reviews side-by-side comparison of the best defrag programs around:

http://disk-defragmenter-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Select a program and install a free trial. The better defrag programs are automatic. The gold medal winner in the above review can defrag while you use the PC and it will also prevent fragmentation.

You can get a free trial for the gold medal winner via the review or at: http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag

Defragment your disk drives regularly.

Good luck to you!

How do i defrag my Acer Aspire 2930Z laptop personally

To Defrag your Hard Drive follow this simple steps. Double click on "my Computer". Then right click on "C", that is your hard drive. Click on properties. Then select "tool". In there you can see the "Defragmentation" click on it. The defrag tool will popout. Highlight the drive you want to defrag in that case "C" Run analyze then defrag now.

Pc defragment disc

Yes, if the the fragmentation was bad to begin with the Disk Defragmenter stops after some time. I've had some  customer's pc's in which i had to run it 3 times in a row to get it to a decent level.

Can't defragment the C portion of the disc

On some systems it will allow you to defragment with lower than 15% of your hard drive, but sometimes some programs refuse to defragment if it is lower than that. I suggest trying to free up at least 900 MB in the drive and try defraging.

Tried a few defrag programs and some of the files won't defrag

Try using the free AusLogics Disk defrag program (http://auslogics-disk-defrag.en.softonic.com/) If that does not work, you can download a free trial of Perfect Disk Defrag at http://www.perfectdisk.com/home. This program allows you to not only defrag large files, but also consolidate free space, schedule when you want to defrag, and select the files you want to defrag. These are two of the better defrag programs out there. Auslogic also makes a good registry defrag located at http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-defrag/download. They all work great and are good to have. I use them.

hi im wesley. you might have a virus of some sorts or try defragmenting your pc it will also speed it up as this sometimes happens when you have alot of things on your pc and when you delete stuff and put files on all the time it slows down alot and can hang because the files are mixed up on the hard drive. to defragment go to start-all programs-accesories-system tools-defragment then say analyze then defragment.
