Question about Whirlpool MH1150XM Convection/Microwave Oven

Open Question

I have a whirlpool model# MH2175XSS-0 that won't turn on.

One of my kids pushed in the receiver latch on the microwave side, not on the door, and the door would not latch shut so I pulled the latches back out and when I pulled the upper one out the house breaker tripped. I flipped the breaker back on and the unit won't turn on. Is there a fuse somewhere on the unit, or what do you think is wrong?

SOURCE: breaker blows

When you turn it on? You mean when you plug it in?

When a microwave blows a breaker but not the fuse, it's often a shorted monitor switch (usually the middle door switch) or one of the other two door switches, or a loose or broken door switch mount.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: stuck door latch

no call a tech micro-waves can be dangerous to work on

Posted on Dec 22, 2007

SOURCE: No power from Whirlpool.

The problem was a defective switch. There are 3 switches on mine. 1 on the top door latch, and 2 on the bottom. one of the switches on the bottom connected the power and neutral together, unless it was activated at the same time as the other 2, causing the breaker to trip or the internal fuse to blow. When unhooking the wire going from this switch to the other switch, everything works great now. Though I still need to replace the switch.

And for Basic 1. Yes my microwave did have a fuse in it it's ceramic, I got a pack of them at Radio Shack 4 for 3$ 250V 20 Amp. There should be a wiring diagram inside the microwave, mine was inside a black bag, so it may be hard to see.

Mine was up top next to the fuse behind the Plastic Grill and then a small metal grill. Some are behind the control panel, to fix this remove the screw at the top and then slide the control panel up and it should unhinge.

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Microwavesvc, that's what I've had happen with my sharp also, I carved a hook out of a piece of plastic and then epoxied it in, and haven't had any more problems with that.

Another problem I've had with the sharp (that just reoccured, I'm trying to figure it out) is that the micro-switches that the door latch push have gone bad. Originally just one went bad and I replaced it, now the micro has the light and fan on, and won't recognize being closed...

Sharp microwave model R-530EK won't turn on. problem in door latch?

You could download the service manual from this website and go to page 11-1 for instructions on removal of top cover. You should then be able to access the latch from the side as it is under the control panel.

The manual also provides repair procedures on different problems.
You have to be vary careful with microwave oven interior and at all times when working on it the power chord should be taken out. There area also high frequencies and precaution must be taken and never turn on without the top cover back in place.

Whirlpool microwave model #WMH1164XVS-2 door won't latch, what do I do?

I thought I had answered this, but here goes again: :)

First of all, you can find helpful exploded views and the parts list here.

Hopefully the issue's something you can fix yourself by checking the door (taking it apart) and checking the latches in the frame of the oven.

You have to separate the door panels as shown in the photo.

Or you can watch a
YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

If the issue is with the door itself, and you cannot repair it, then you would have to order a whole new door since door parts are not available separately for this model.

You can order Whirlpool parts from the Pros here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave won't start

I have the same problem. Is the light still on inside the microwave? Mine is on and the microwave thinks the door is not shut. I took the top off of the microwave and the latch needs to push down on a switch once shut. The latch was reaching the switch, but I think some spring in the door, pushing the latches down, has broken since it reaches the switch when closed but there isn't any downward force to flip the switch.
I am trying to figure out how to repair the latch but if your light is on when you "shut" the door, you may have the same problem.

Whirlpool Microwave Oven (Model MH1140XMQ-0) interior light will not turn off

ther is only 2 causes for this. one is that the door latch has failed and the only way to repair is to get the entire door assembly. the other is a switch that is on the inide of the unit just behind the user control. i do stress that, if you pull the outer cover off to access the inner switch, you need to be very careful about what you touch, and unplug the unit. there is a capacitor inside the unit that will shock you and it does hurt. the high voltage side of your microwave is about 20,000 volts

I have a Panasonic Model #NN-S255 microwave oven. The button you push to open the door does not open the door. It's like there is no resistance when you push the button therefore it does not push up...

Hello,To get the door open and salvage your dinner, take a long thin blade ( I used a frosting spreader) and insert from the bottom between the door and the oven frame on the side with the latches (usually next to the control panel). You may have to pry the bottom of the door open just a bit. The object is to push up the lower door latch (which is connected to the upper door latch) and manually open the door. You may have to try a few times but this worked perfectly for me and saved dinner. Obviously the door latch needs to be repaired but this solves the immediate problem of dinner being held hostage by a recalcitrant microwave.
wish you good luck,
take care.

remove the outer casing so that you can gain access to the door locking mechanism, you will then have to use common sense to decide how to repair

Stuck Microwave door

The button assembly or the arm thats attached to the push button is broken. With the unit unplugged. Carfully take off the screws from the sides and around the back of the unit around the outside of the cover. Now once apart, DO NOT TOUCH any electrical parts. Look at the mechanism and see if you can see why the buttons not activating an arm to trigger the door latch. If you think you see why, Go to http://www.repairclinic.com and enter your model #.. Answer the questions and then a bunch of parts will come up. If they dont then get the tele # from there and call them. Depending on how old the oven is, you may want to consider a newer oven??. Good luck
