Question about E-Machines eMachines Monitor E15T4

Emachine monitor E17T4 does not respond when the front switch is depressed

I have Emachines LCD 17" monitor which has been working perfectly since i bought it in Nov 2005. This morning i tried to switch it on. It did not come on. The CPU booted perfectly alright . I confirmed this by hooking the pc to a spare monitor I had.

When ever I depress the power button, I see a slight flash that is visible only in the dark. Please suggest trouble shooting steps to find out what could be wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.

i have read some reviews on your monitor
So the ex-hubby calls me with his woes - his eMachines T3124 is having problems. Seems that when he cold boots in the morning it hits the "E" splash screen and then just goes to black screen. No bios boot screen, no boot to windows. Everything sounds ok though. After a few restarts it boots ok. So, first trouble shoot is to replace the 180w Bestec power supply with a salvaged 300w Hippro from my T6420 (which was replaced with a 500w) - the one I replaced the mobo on. Works great ... for one night. Next morning I get the frantic call - now he gets nothing after the "E" splash but white wavy lines, but the computer sounds like it's running fine. Ok - ok ... think, think. First thought was maybe the onboard graphics have gone, next thought maybe the mobo is going ....

What is the next thing we do after trying a known, good power supply? Try another working montior. I had him try using a trusty older CRT monitor and Wha-Lah! After less than 3 years the E17T4 LCD monitor had failed. Most recent crisis handled. This little incident has made him realize though that he needs to burn all his picture and videos to CD. Scared him to think he could have lost them. Today's reminder? BURN your pictures and videos now! You never known when something might happen. And eMachines monitors are ****.

hope this helps

I have a black e machines E17T4 monitor that suddenly stopped working, the power button does nothing when it's plugged in can it be fixed?

It might be able to be fixed but typically repairs on monitors are going to cost you more than a new one would. If it's still in warranty I would contact the manufacturer unless you purchased an extended warranty.

Purchaced new computer, screen is only in half how can i fix this

Right click on "My computer" Properties and finally settings. Then pull the bar over until you see 1024X768. If that doesn't do it go bigger. If that doesn't work, go to the MFG of the screen and look for the correct driver of the screen. Hope this helps.

Monitor works in dos starup, but fails in Vista startup mode.

Sounds like windows resolution or refresh rate is too high for the 15" monitor. Try starting in safe mode and setting the resolution below 1024 X 768 and refresh at 60. Restart.

Hi crabguy,

To my understanding, this is a common problem with some eMachine monitors (including the E17T4) since its production start sometime 2004/5.

Your particular concern could be due to several possibilities:
1. failing backlight - which is more often the inverter going bad therefore failing to supply the CCF Lamps. Additionally, the logic controller senses the "no lamp" condition and shuts the unit OFF. You could try using a flashlight to shine on the lcd front to determine if you have some semblance of your desktop/icons before the unit switches OFF.;
2. video board - which receives signals from the CPU as well as syncs the horz and verti freq. Failure would also sends an OFF trigger to the logic controller and again will shutdown the unit;
3. cold solder and loose connections - the components used are often frail and unfortunately not connected properly and/or the soldered joints are too thin. It would be to your advantage to re-solder most of the soldered joints specially those pins of the power components such as high wattage resistors, filter capacitors, transformers, diodes and regulator transistors/ICs;
4. most of the boards are chassis grounded using part of the trace connected through the holding screws. It would also be to your advantage to tighten the screws holding the boards so as to securely connect the GND trace of the PCBs to the chassis mounting points.
5. additionally, you may want to deep push the different connectors/plugs to their mates/jacks specially the main from the LCD panel itself, it's a bit of a deep-seat type.

Diagnosis and repairs would require familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Should you not be comfortable going this route, perhaps you need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

If taking into consideration the cost of repairs, the down time and length of time to repair the unit, you might want also want to consider just replacing the unit.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
