Question about Xerox Phaser 7400/DXF Laser Printer

Open Question

Imaging unit "pops" up and causes jams/interruptions in printing

Client uses card stock and prints heavily from manual feed. The cyan toner seems to be the culprit. After numerous print jobs or (after I leave--and cannot find anything wrong with the machine) the toner cart "pops" up and causes printer to jam/stop printing. I personally have NOT seen this happen but after I leave it seems to always happen-(OF COURSE RIGHT!)-so I cannot clarify as to what message or what the printer wants you to do per se.

Im guessing - Replace Cyan toner..? Reseat Cyan toner cartridge...?

--i have reseated all toner carts and made sure they were all snug numerous times..
--i have made sure that the "silver nipple" is in fact inside the slot on the rear wall of inside of machine (over transfer belt area)
--the card stock IS in fact a weight that is acceptable to use through the manual feed so that is not the issue.

i am at a loss. Customer will NOT stop calling for service for same issue.

PLEASE HELP!

thanks-

SOURCE: false reading of toner cart status

Sounds to me like you actually have the wrong part number. There are more than one cartridge for the Xerox printers, They have different chips on them. One is for billable accounts, one or more than one for accounts that pay for prints. There also was as i remember a spring type clip they left off some cartridges.
So with what you have tried and the old cartridges work fine, strongly suspect bad carridges.

SOURCE: error message: cyan imaging unit is either missing or unseated

The problem is with the top cover assembly. It could be a few things. I would first try the toner sensor flags(the magnet may not be strong enough to read properly). Also replace the toner cartidge because it's magnet may also have gotten weak. Third, I would try the Toner sensor board.

I have had this problem with many printers and normally it is just the flags because of the weak magnets.

Xerox does not list that model at all - are you sure the model number is correct ?
It would appear that either the cartridge or fuser may be defective.
Does the machine show any error codes at all ?

Here is a user manual for a similar model 3225 that may help under the troubleshooting section :

SOURCE: my dell 3110cn printer is

This error message indicates that the printer has failed to read information from the chip on the black printer cartridge.

This is either.

1. Black cartridge not fully pushed into place (I've been called out to a couple like this)

2. Faulty chip on the black cartridge - effectively not responding to the printer 'talking' to it.

3. Fault on the main board of the printer.

Solution

1. Push the cartridge fully home.

2,3. If you have an old black cartridge, try that. The message should change to Replace Toner, if it does, its the chip on the cartridge, if it doesn't its the printer.

Since i install a new drum, i have smudges on my copies how do i fix

    Sir/Madam

If you have Brother Printer print quality problems, Then I suggest You clean the Your Brother printer drum unit as follows:

Small Spots on the printed pages:

If your printed document has any small white or colored spots, follow the steps below.

1.Open the manual feed slot cover.

    68682939-74ee-4f87-a7a5-f02054ffd056.gif

    2. Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

    3c58990a-a64f-467e-80f1-d002cea26746.gif

3.Using both hands, put one blank sheet of paper in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper touches the paper feed roller. Wait until the machine automatically feeds the paper. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

    Note
    • Make sure that the paper is straight and in the correct position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
    • Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
    • Do not put paper in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state. An error may occur and the printer will stop printing.

    2eb57e9d-950e-4b6e-ad8b-56c8ebb19b07.gif

4.Make sure that the printer is in the Ready state. Press + or - to choose "Color Correction". Press OK.

5.Press + or - to choose "Drum Cleaning".

6.Press Go. The printer will pull in the piece of paper and start cleaning the drum unit.

    6b922b0a-02b3-4722-b1c9-66c30edf3521.gif

7.When the printer has finished cleaning, "Completed" appears on the LCD.
Press Cancel so that the printer returns to the Ready state.

8.Repeat steps 3 to 7 two more times using a new blank sheet of paper each time. Upon completion, please discard the used paper. If the print problem still remains, please go to the Step 9.

Large spots on the printed pages:
Hint If your printed page has colored spots at 94mm (3.7 in) intervals, please follow the step below.
    1. 9.Turn off the printer power switch.

    caa08e02-67b8-4b61-b1fd-f671f7a5511b.gif

    10. Fully open the top cover by lifting up on the handle (1).

    51223372-6d42-4884-a45a-5442dfcea382.gif

    11. See the print sample to identify the color causing the problem. The color of the spots is the color of the drum you should clean. For example, if the spots are cyan, you should clean the drum for cyan. Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly of the color causing the problem.

    Caution
    • We recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a clean, flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper or cloth underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
    • To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration.

    2a1279fb-d964-4573-9637-8c4266c18daa.gif

12.Push down the green-labeled lock lever (1) and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

    Caution
    1. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once.
01d4b807-b16c-4217-9312-e3512e748120.gif

13.Put the print sample in front of the drum unit, and find the exact position of the poor print.

14.Turn the drum unit gear by hand while looking at the surface of the OPC drum (1).

f8e1a002-f52a-4911-84f3-67e5a15fc8ba.gif

15.When you have found the mark on the drum that matches the print sample, wipe the surface of the OPC drum with a dry cotton swab until the dust or glue on the surface comes off.

DO NOT clean the surface of the photosensitive drum with a sharp object.

Note Make sure that you put in the toner cartridge properly or it may separate from the drum unit.

17.Slide each drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the printer. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge color to the same color label on the printer.

C- Cyan, M- magenta, Y- Yellow, K- Black

I have a Brother MFC 8220 with a nonBrother cartridge and the original Brother drum. No problems printing until today. I tried to send a 4x6 piece of thin card stock through the front manual feed on the...

There are possibly 2 reasons why this is happening.
1. The drum unit may have been damaged in some way but I doubt it. Check fully that all contacts are in the right place at either side of the drum unit. A contact may be slightly bent.
2. Check the Transfer Roller is in its correct position. The transfer roller is the felt type roller that is positioned in the printer under where the drum unit goes. If this has got out of position then that could also cause the faint printing. Check contacts in printer are not bent.

After setting the paper type to card stock to thin card stock or special because this all I can pick the thing jams all the time.

This happens to be one of my least favorite printers.

Here is my suggestion:

Open up the cover and remove all 4 of the imaging units (with the toner cartridge). Also, remove the Fuser. While removing them, look for any bits of paper that may have gotten missed while clearing the jam.

Replace all of the items above and see if the printer still has a paper jam. It shouldn't.

Since, I assume you are manual feeding the card stock (the lower drawer doesn't allow for card stock to be used), look at the manual feed opening. There should be a small metal piece about 3" wide and less than 1/4" thick. Make sure it's attached properly. Ours unseated itself and is continuing to cause manual feed issues. This can be fixed but requires a good portion of the printer to be opened up to reseat the little metal piece.

Hope this helps.

Large Toner Streak... Bad Imaging Unit?

Check to see if you waste toner recycling for the cyan is working or being blocked. Check the transfer bias roller next to the cyan drum. Return you cyan imaging unit for a warranty replacement. Check for obstructions to the cyan developing unit. Check that the cyan IU was put into the machine properly. Check for toner leaking from the entrance to the developing unit or from the toner cartridge.

or, call a qualified KonicaMinolta tech to check out and service your machine.

Print Quality problem Xerox 7400DN

Opening a cover during printing will cause a paper jam. If you do this several times and carefully clear th paper you may be able to isolate the origen of the smudging.

Pages full of toner / toner streaking

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)

Paper jams

Hi conniebrown you may be using a card that is too heavy for the machine check the specifications that you card is within the recommended guidelines of not use a lower weight card. Also make sure that you are putting the card through the tray 1 unit and that on the driver properties you have selected card stock. Try this I hope it works for you.

Hi Guest you may have a piece of paper stuck under that registration unit open front cover remove the transfer unit and also remove the toner cartridges. Once this is done at the bottom you will see where the paper guides through (Black unit with green piece in the middle) close the front door half way then you will be able to lift that unit up and check underneath it. There is normally a small piece of paper there causing your jam.

Hope this helps
Thanks J
