This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager, and is a known defect for your particular model camera.. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free if you live in the US, Canada, and a select few other countries. If you live outside the US, contact Canon support for your country to see if they'll still honor the advisory (some still will, especially if you stress you knowledge that this is a known defect of the camera). They may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

Could be a problem with the CCD image sensor. Your camera is on the list of a service notice I found when I had a similar problem with another model Canon camera. If it is the image sensor, Canon would cover the shipping and repair of the image sensor for free; that's how I got mine repaired.

Please refer to this page, and then contact Canon (I reccomend calling; they're friendly, and the wait is not too incredibly long) to describe your problem. Make sure to mention that you believe the CCD image sensor is faulty, and you found the service notice they issued about the problem:

Screen all fuzzy when taking photo.

What you have is a CCD issue. The CCD is the part of the camera that captures the images and stores it to the card. When the CCD goes bad it does some pretty funky things, including blurry, fuzzy or other weird things when they go bad.

Here is a link to an eBay auction with a CCD on it.

Canon a85 problem

Could be that the non-rechargeable batteries are blocking current from the rechargeable ones. Either get all rechargeable and charge them AT LEAST 14 hours before using, or use all alkaline - fresh. If the same display happens it could be a defective CCD which is being replaced FREE by Canon. Go here for details: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
