You may have a bad circuit to to faulty capacitor which is common now days. Otherwise I recommend cleaning laser lens eye with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab.

SONY keeps switching to EP at beginning of playing SP tapes

You may have dirty heads in the vcr---most 4 head machines use two for sp and the other two for lp and or ep.

Tape residue will usually be seen on the drum where the heads are when this happens--also look for the black residue on the tape guides that hold the tape in position against the drum-------

TV1 keeps saying it's searching for a sat connection but TV2 is fine. What gives?

I understand you're having an issue with your Duo receiver getting signal to only one of the two TV's it's hooked up to, tmbottoms! What you should do first is verify the receiver is in Duo mode, meaning that both 'TV' lights on the front of the receiver are lit. If they're not, click the Mode button until they are. Then, check the connections in the back of TV1 and make sure they're all hand-tight secure. If it's still not picking the signal up, unplug the receiver's power cord from its outlet for at least ten seconds and then plug it back in.

Go ahead and try those two things first and let me know what happens. Hope that helps!

By mistake I took a photo with the "landscape"

Once the picture is recorded, it's recorded. You can edit it in the usual way.

Keep in mind that the scene modes merely give the camera a hint as to what you're taking a picture of so it can adjust the shutter speed and aperture appropriately. The camera doesn't know what you're taking a picture of. You can go ahead and shoot landscapes in the portrait mode or portraits in the landscape mode, and the camera won't care.

Keep the battery unplugged but make sure you have the power cord still plugged in, and when you see the toshiba screen press F8 i believe or F1. In there you need to change to the boot order so that the CDrom boots first if you want to try and restore from CD

Video noise

When in video camera mode, press menu, and change auto focus mode from c (continuous) to s (single). The noise you hear is the auto focus motor going back and forth, trying to find the object focus constantly.
You can use this only if the object is not changing the distance to the camera while recording.

Zooming problem

I have the same problem. I have no fix in rec mode but if it happens during playback; press menu and select the zoom options. You don't have to pick any but just keep the menu displayed on the screen. I do this while recording the tape to my DVD recorder and it solves the locked zoom problem. The menu display does not get recorded.
This zoom problem is a big pain. We should start a class action suit against Canon. It started within a year of ownership with mine. I bought a Panasonic recently and haven't looked back.
Panasonic doesn't have the slick Canon marketing/packaging but it is a much better machine.

Problem playing 45 Records to their entirety.

There is an adjustment on the tone arm that you use to set where the tone arm picks up at the end of the record. This adjustment is normaly at the back (pivot point) of the tone arm and will be on the side probably. By the way, the tone arm is the part that the stylus is mounted to that swings back and forth to reach all the surface of the record. Make your adjustment and then test and continue doing this until you get it just where you want it. It is a process of trial and error. Good luck.
